    Dear All,

My dell xps l702x back cover hinge screws as well as the right metal rail bracket have broken due to the hinge being too stiff i think. ( i tried turning it and it doesnt move an inch).

I have been hearing this clicking sound for a while now but I never paid attention to it, and yesterday I took the front cover apart and I saw the damage that has been caused. I am providing a few photos so you can see how is my laptop like at the moment. View attachment 96137 View attachment 96138 View attachment 96139 View attachment 96140
Although in order for me to close the cover i need to move the screen above the right hinge (since it doesnt move), which as a result allows the hinge to be fully exposed on the back of the laptop, I can still operate the laptop since If i open the cover gently, the screen is stable although the right side is broken.

The dell has provided me with the price of almost 250 euros which equals to 300 dollars I guess for fixing this issue, which I find rather ridiculous and I dont want to pay. I have tried searching for the rail bracket as well as a new back cover since I need new screw receivers but importation from the US, costs alone almost 100 dollars without any taxation or duty fees. This is one solution.

A 2nd solution I am thinking about, its to try to loosen the hinge somehow and let it be loosen while the other hinge does most of the work.

The 3rd solution I am thinking about which I really need your ideas is I am thinking using epoxy glue or something just to get the rail back together as well as to glue somehow the screws on the cover, or penetrate the cover with larger screws while loosening the hinge so it works for a bit longer.

I really find it retarded to pay 250 euros which is almost a 3rd of the price I paid for the laptop, (I got it with student discount) and a bit unfair on dell's part so I dont want to make them the favour of giving them so much money for some parts that cost like 50 dollars or so..

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance

    Yours sincerely
    George

Oh Thank you that looks lovely. what about the rail bracket will some glue be enough if the case screws are adequate to hold it in one place? I think it will be okay for some time if i open it with caution

No, good point, you should buy the new rails as well. In fact if you had to decide between the lid and rails, you should get the rails as that is the primary structural component here.
