I put the order in this past Sunday and it still says in production. I ordered a new XPS 15 I only got one upgrade I ordered it with the i5-560M instead of the reg i5-460M. Why do you think it's still in production ? do you think they don't have anymore i5-560M and are waiting for a shipment from intel ?

Am I just worrying for nothing and the wait time is normal ? My friend got ordered a IN-15R and he got it in 6 days from order date.

For what it's worth, when I ordered my XPS 15 for the first time a couple of weeks ago, by the time I saw it go from "In Production" to "Shipped", FedEx had already tried to deliver it and still had it on the truck since I wasn't around to sign for it . It was a pleasant suprise to know it was ready, but sucked having to wait another day just because I didn't know they were going to try to deliver it! That was exactly 7 days from when I ordered it. I ended up having to send it back, and ordered the replacement this past Monday. Mine is "In Production" as well.

That doesn't make sense. Doesn't Fedex attempt 3 times before storing the package in their warehouse to which you can retrieve from if you went there yourself?

It was indirect signature required, so he left a slip on the door. I signed it that night, and he left the package at the door the next day. Sending it back was unrelated (distorted speaker, no backlit keyboard, hated the 720p).

The new XPS line is notorious for production issues/delays. Just wait it out.

So lets say I'm not home, Does that mean fedex will try to redelivery it two more times then ?

So does dell build the laptop from scratch you think from all the parts it consist of ? or do they get in it in full intact laptop, and then when you order one with a upgrade like I did do they take out the part you upgraded and put in the the upgrade you want ? So like in my case they removed the i5-460M and then put in the i5-560M ?

I just checked my Dell account they changed the esimated del date from 2-8 to 2-2-2011.

Call their 800 number for automated order tracking. Wait on the line and ask someone. Mine showed in production on the website for 4 days after it shipped. Production seems to include the build time, packaging time, and shipping from wherever it is assembled to the Fedex distribution center (about 2-3 days). It might have shipped and a rep will be able to tell you.
