My parents decided i could use the weekend deals going on right now and buy the m1530. It says the esd is 8/6/08 and i cant wait until it arrives. :) I went with mostly the base deal config and just upgraded the cpu. Do you think i should reformat or leave it because i saw forte did a test and the reformat slowed down startup?

My start-up speed to the desktop is 30 seconds 99% of the time since the reformatting of my m1530, oh YEAH, and you should look at the vista tweak guide by Les, which also helped the start-up speed

There is no point in telling you my experience again since you already read it. Though I can tell you that the Tweak Guide will definitely do more good than reformatting simply because Dell XPS M1530 is not really considered a "bloated" laptop to begin with. Hopefully you didn't choose to take advantage of the free trial antivirus when you placed your order because that might affect the speed of your computer if you choose to keep it. If you forgot, uninstall it as soon as you get it without activating it or it might leave unwanted junk on your computer.

Congrat's on your order! You'll really enjoy the 1530....and maybe your ESD will be even sooner ;) :)

I did the reformat, tweaks, etc. when I received mine, and it helped.

    Cin ;) :)

I talked to Dell and they claimed nothing was on delay. I got the standard 1200 x 800 screen and the standard 6 cell battery.

That m1530 looks like a sweet computer but aren't you folks who just ordered one not concerned about the GPU issues with this laptop? It seems like a lot of people are just ignoring this problem and hoping it won't affect them. Is getting the extended warrenty the answer for piece of mind? They are still shipping out the questionable gpu's with the m1530 right?

Wow... im a little suprised that there could be so much fluctuation among the time between ordering and shipment, from 3 days to like a month (probably gonna be me) damned 9 cell battery.

they are potentially questionable- but the new dell fix (yes it is a band-aid) but after I have tested- my temp went down (and I WASN'T having heating problems even when gaming) So woohoo. ;) I also tested my battery life and it only lost a few min so I don't care.
*I think if you like the laptop, and at least get the year warranty, you will be good- just watch and see how cpu issue develops and if you have a problem take care of it with your warranty. :)

Wow some of you guys have crazy fast ESD here. I placed my order 7/16 and ESD is 8/14. I did opt for the 9 cell battery, and LED Screen but still. I gotta wait a whole month.

I don't think i will reformat but i will follow the tweaks guide, and what program would you guys recommend for checking temps?

holy crap those are high ... but it looks like the BIOS update fixed that for you ... 73 isn't bad at all ... but 104 is crazy high.
