I have till the end of next month to purchase a business notebook. I am ready to buy an XPS 1530 (with an 8600gt gpu) but am wondering if I will regret doing this, especially if a newer model becomes available soon. My main regret would be if the newer upgraded model will have a substantially stronger gpu (that would improve its gaming abilities.) Dell does have a 25% off coupon till Jan 5, 2009 (which does add more pressure on my decision.) While the savings would be nice, the better gpu/gaming abilities might be better.
Should I go with the 8600gt now or wait to see what comes available next month?
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Best regards.

Wasn't the XPS M1530 intro'd after the M1330? If so, the M1330 still hasn't been refreshed so it might be a while.
-
I'd say unless you're going to be doing heavy gaming or the like that requires a top of the line graphics card then pull the trigger. I just did and mine should be in next week. That 25% off was just too good to pass up.
-
Might as well get it if you want to save some money. 25% is a pretty big discount.
-
Definitely definitely wait. The new models are coming out in a couple of weeks and so are some really good coupons (30%-45% off)
-
Just curious...how do you know what coupons are coming?
-
Patience is a virtue, I can not complain about the price I got mine for though. But if you wait, especially with the market how it is, prices shall continue to drop over the next month or 2.

I would say that you should DEFINITELY wait. I've been in the market for a notebook (still debating between the XPS and a MBP) and I just noticed that the price of the XPS today (in cart, pre-coupons) is lower by about $150 than it's been the past few days. I think Dell is dropping prices to move as many of these babies as they can before they release the next model...which will be happening soon, I feel. Have you seen the new screenshots? So sweet....

well, someone said the 1530 upgrade model 1640 will come out with a ATI3670 video card. It looks not good enough for your target...
maybe you should wait and see... -
I think it all depends, how much you want the 1530 vs. waiting for the new releases to come out.
The 1530's have some great coupon deals right now.
If you have til the end of the month, that's literally 2 days away.
There is no exact *release date* for the new Dell lineup. Technology changes everyday.
The 1530 is a great lappy! It depends on your *wants and needs* right now.
From what I've read in your posts, it sounds like you do want the 1530!!!
(just a few thoughts for you to ponder)

I don't have to make a final decision until the end of next month. The only pressure is whether to take a chance and skip the current Dell 25% off coupon that expires on January 5th.
-
25% off is a great deal ~ well, you have til next Monday to decide. And, if not you have several more weeks to make a decision and see what is the best at that current time.
Coupons, and great deals like that always *come and go*

I usually buy a new notebook every year just to keep up with the changes. -
I just bought myself an XPS after a few months of deliberations. I do not regret it. As others have said, a laptop starts getting out of date the moment you order it.
Also, there appears to be a website glitch now where you can stack some unstackable discounts. If you order the RED XPS, it is possible to keep the instant savings and use a 20-25% off coupon on top of it.
Normally you can only get one or the other. I didn't even want the red color, but ended up with it because it made the price several hundred dollars cheaper than equally-configured builds in the other colors. -
can you share a link to discounted product red 1530 you just purchased? I've tried to locate it so I can apply 25% on top but could not find any link to already discounted product red...

unless of course, for some crazy reason, there's no glitch and they're selling red XPS's at a loss : )
I'm ready to buy an XPS 1530. Should I wait for the new upgraded model?
