I have an m1530 which I upgraded to 64 bit Windows 7. The default audio driver from windows update didn't allow me to use the microphone, so I used the Vista 64 Sigmatel driver from the dell site. Because of a slight audio popping issue (many other people have discussed this) I updated to the IDT drivers for the m1645 as Black Russian recommended. Then I searched even further and found this list on laptopvideo2go:
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/23793-latest-sigmatel-idt-drivers/
I installed the newest one there (6255) and it seems to work pretty just as well as the other ones did.
Why are there so many versions? Why are they all so specific in which models they are to be used with? And is it ok to just keep upgrading to the newest one that's released?

maybe there are a few version because the internal hadware is different... for example I have IDT drivers for Studio xps 1340... and studio xps 1340 has 2 headphone jacks instead of 1 that most laptops have... so for me Im guessing the idt driver for my laptop is best since it is made for my hardware.
