With only my desktop running, my GPU temps are about 54-55C and will increase to approx. 66C, then my fan will increase and bring the temps back to the 54-55 range. Is this normal? (8600GT card)

    yep, perfectly normal.. dont worry.

Though for some people it doesn't fluctuate as often between 55-65... even for sometimes, it idles arnd 55-57.. and sometimes it goes to 65-66, before the fan kicks in.

    But its normal :) Cheers
