I already posted this in the "what notebook should I buy?" forum however, I apologize, and I realize it belongs here.
What is most important for me which ever one causes less heat.

If you want to sacrifice speed for capacity 500 Gb, but if you want a less capacity, less heat, and more speed, go with the SSD.
I would. 256 GB is plenty for me. -
Dell sells the Samsung 256 MB SSD at a fairly discounted price. If you can afford it, go for it.
-
This pretty much comes down to how much you are willing to pay - the SSD is obviously better.

Personally, I'd go for the 256GB SSD. You'll have much faster loading times, quicker responses, and if you're gaming a lot less waiting around for loading. For storage you can always get a really cheap external - meaning you have the capacity there for files, and use your SSD for programs and the OS for fantastic speeds =-D

I went with the 500gb personally, I tend to download a LOT of video stuff and ive used 345gb of my 596gb on my desktop.
-
I chose to not get the 256GB SSD and instead got: X25-M 80GB for OS & APPs, 500GB external for Storage. This seems like the best possible setup for the fastest SSD system with a lot of storage.

I also think the OCZ Summit with Samsung controller 60GB would be a great OS/APP drive.
I've seen some people post about their 256GB SSD's from Dell slowing down big time after a while. Hopefully, the X25-M's firmware is better and the OCZ Summit has TRIM support. -
go check anandtech.coms ' SSD anthology, it gives a great overview of the drives.
If I get a xps16, should I get a 500GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive or a 256 GB SSD?
