And the fact that you get a refurbished unit? Might as well have bought from the Dell Outlet in the first place to save some money.

If the new XPS line were released today... it'd have to look nicer, have an illuminated keyboard, and have a much better gfx card than it has already, not just a minor improvement like the 9600GT or 9700GT. The price must also not exceed 1,450 bucks for a decent configuration. Though the price definitely not going to be likely, hence why I will stick with my M1530.

Eventually Dell and nVidia are going to provide its customers with a fix and/or revised GPU.

ATI is jumping with glee right now. Nvidia definitely wont be able to handle all the costs involved having to cover all manufacturers. They will definitely need more than 200 million dollars with even more lines affected.

I would assume the new model will have a 9XXX series GPU and they are not having any problems. Also according to nVidia they changed their manufacturing process on the 8XXX series so they don't have a problem anymore so I wouldn't not be worried it. I am not even worried about with the current XPS I have on order. I can't imagine Dell is going to go on replacing defective GPUs with more defective GPUs forever and eventually if not already they will be replaced with revised chips.

9XXX series GPUs are affected as well. :)

I'm not having any problems with my 8600GT, it works great, though its just nice to know that the 9XXX series too is in the area of "defectiveness".

    Yes. Precisely.

However if you order a notebook and you are under your 21 days no questions asked return policy, you can request a BRAND NEW replacement, which is not a refurb unit and if they do send you a refurb unit, you can claim that it is not brand new (due to having a circular colored sticker on the outside of the box).

Under warranty, if you need a replacement... you will always get a refurb, and when you complain it is not brand new... they point to the warranty policy that states that you will receive a refurb unit and there is nothing you can do about it.

Haven't you said that you have requested/demanded a new replacement and got it?

Never mind your edit answered my question.

Yeah, just came up today. Amazing isn't it? Glad to know that the 8xxx series is not the only one biting the dust.

I requested the replacement the 2nd day I got the M1530 and discovered all the problems and defects. I was under the 21 day return policy. Not the warranty. Like I said, under 21 day days from your invoice, you can request a replacement and it will be brand new, or if its not and you notice its a refurb, you can demand that they send you a brand new one.

However after the 21 days... you are under warranty meaning any replacement they send you will be a refurb and theres nothing you can do about it.

nah i'm fine with the current line because since it's been out for so long dell has probably had time to work out most of the crap that goes wrong

if a new line came out, there are good chances something will be messed up and you will have to return/replace for months.....

Unless, you demand that they send you a unit with a non-defective video card which might mean a new notebook if no refurb with a ATI card is available.
