I was thinking about downloading this as it seems like a good way to keep my laptop cool. However, I remember reading warnings about it and just wanted to make sure that it is safe. I have a m1530.

Do i need to make sure I abide by any rules?

On the M1530 you can't control the fans with I8kfan anyway. It only works - though very restricted - for the M1330.

There isn't much point in installing I8kfan on M1530. It gives you some more temps that HWMonitor doesn't give you. However the values presented there differ from the ones of HWMonitor where at least is know what it actually measures.

@7oby... think u have to manually config I8kFan to match up with HWMonitor(thats what i had to do for my m1330)

    It works great ¡ ¡
you only have to match temperatures with other software (like HWMonitor), and then...fill out "offset". That was what I do on m1330... and its the best and simple fancontrol. I used it on Vista x32..Vistax64...and now...Windows7 x64

    Regards.

I would say use HWmonitor. I used it in conjuntion with Speedfan and Everest Ultimate, all those monitors seem to work great. i8kFan seems to be a little more troublesome due to the wrong diode being read and detected for various components. I would not recommend it.
