I'm so bored waiting for the M1530 that I'm trying to make a plan on how to enhance my computers performance. This can be a thread for future owners or people who need help doing the same.
Here's a question: What can I overclock and what should I overclock? Is it possible to overclock RAM? I have 0% knowledge on overclocking so go easy on me but feed me info!
Guides & Plans:
Add to the list if you'd like!
- Overclock the motherboard (according to overclock forums, not possible)
- Overclock the RAM (possible?)
- Overclock the 8600GT GPU
- Increase the performance of VISTA & computers boot-up time

I'd suggest you start by reading this thread.

Guys, I linked to the Vista Tweaks Guide by Les in the first post already.
@ Cin' - The first link is great! Thanks! First post updated. -
So you did, and we missed it. Such is life. It was a real pleasure trying to help.

Well, if you want noticeable improvements, the links you have are great. Especially boot and shutdown times. What I would suggest though is to go into the power management profiles. You'll see Dell recommended, Power Saver, Performance. But say you clicked on Dell recommended (from the battery icon in the taskbar) you can go further and change some Advanced Settings. In there, you'll see that you can change your CPU performance to maximum output and GPU to maximum while on battery or AC. I haven't really tested it, but it's worth trying.
About overclocking, any damage the GPU as a result of overclocking will void the warranty, so I'd be careful. (At least that's what nTune says)
For noticeable performance:
-a fast processor (2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and up)
-4GB RAM at 667MHz DDR2 would be ok but 800-1066MHz would be better if you really want it.
-7200rpm harddrive or a SSD will be a real boost, as nowadays the harddrive seems to be holding back performance -
Thanks phaaam! I'll try to do the power management when I get Vista (I cant find what you're talking about in XP).
Also for my M1530, I got 2.5GHz (T9300), 4GB ram (only 667 supported in the M1530) and a 5400 HD which I plan to upgrade to 7200 or even some faster Western Digital if I can find one.
Increasing the M1530 performance (in all ways)?
