My XPSM1330 got a serious trouble with the old Vista... Unluckily, I didn't have any image backup or recovery on it.. That's why I have to install a new Vista on my laptop... I got a full OEM Vista DVD which has been installed so many times on my desktop as well as my father's laptop.. No problems !!! But when I used it for my DELL... After the initial restart after installing updates... It cannot keep on the process.. Now the screen appears in black with Vista Boot Manager Error... I think the AHCI Drive is the main reason so I downloaded the new Intel Matrix Strorage with AHCI support on DELL.com and put it in USB and chose Load Driver in the installing page in Vista ... But nothing changed...!! That's really urgent... and I don't know how to fix it.... !!!! Thanks for any helps....!!! Thanks .... thanks .... thanks ....!!!

welcome to the forum. What is the exact error message?

OEM DVDs are only meant to be used with the computer it originally came with. why don’t you use the DELL Vista installation disk of your M1330 (didn't you get one)?

That's it... I got it already.. But install still the same.... When the first restart begins, Vista Boot Manager appears and I can't keep on the process.... The main reason I saw on screen is some file in registry has been failed... etc... so many things..... I followed the instruction to repair on Vista DVD, but nothing changed.......!!!! Hopeless.....!!!

what exactly do you mean by that? your computer restarts soon after the boot screen appears ? do you see a blue color screen with lot of text ?

Even after using a new DELL DVD, if you still get the same error, then it could be a hardware error. Start by checking the memory, use memtest86.

Ok, let I tell you more details.... After the installation comes to INSTALLING UPDATES, your computer will be restarted ... After restarting, we will keep on the process... But now, the black screen appears with this notification: "Your hardware or software might be changed"... And it gives me the solution that using Vista DVD and fix the error... But I did it so many times and nothing changes.... I've already used so many testing tool, memtest 86, hard disk generator.. Now, I'm so busy that's why I can't take a picture of it for you... But I think that the SATA is the main reason, AHCI....!!! How do you think, thanks very much , buddy !!....

Sounds like your OS is rebooting to IDE when your drive is SATA. You need to stay in AHCI otherwise you'll have poor performance.

Make sure you have the right SATA driver from Dell in your thumb drive.
Check that your USB is bootable in your bios.
Then try to reinstall Vista and invoke the driver in F6 mode during windows setup.

Try resetting the BIOS to it's default setting and then delete all partitions of the HDD and full format (not quick format). Choose to not 'update' automatically yet and continue installation.

If your covered under warranty call dell and let them do it. If the technician ask question why just pis* in his pocket and tell him you had a virus and you have to reinstall windows now and nothing works. They will tell you what to do and if nothing works Dell will do something :)
