There's one "optonal" update on Windows Update which I haven't installed yet.

It's called "nVIDIA - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT."

Is this the new nVIDIA update that I read about a few weeks ago here? Have any of you installed this update? Is it worth the install? Or should I just ignore it? What does it do better to my graphics card?

    hey steel,

Its always good to have your display drivers up-to-date, the problem is that i have windows update disabled for good on my lap, so i dont know what version it is, but you can install it and see, i doubt it will be of any harm, better yet it might improve performance.

    Best of luck!

Ok thanks...I'll probably try it out. I have one more additional optional update, and I'm not sure if it is a Windows Update or for the Dell.

Do you know what this update does, and what it's for?

    "UPEK-Other hardware- TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor."

Does it have anything to do with the Fingeprint reader?

    yep
It's clear that it's got something to do with the fingerprint reader

I guess it's some kind of a driver for it but i don't know for sure

I installed that update. I assume it addresses heat issues because now, unfortunately, my fan is running like a jet engine ALL THE TIME. I never had any issues before and my laptop never got too hot and I never had any graphic card problems. Also, my laptop was QUIET. Now it's FRIGGIN ANNOYING AS HECK. Thanks, nVidia. The problem that I have with bloody laptopvideo2go is that my external 22" LCD doesnt work properly after I install the driver.
The official drivers work fine but the modded things dont. My monitor cant display the 1680x1050 resolution and must go down to 1440x900 which is bullshi* because it CAN do the 1680x1050 with the official drivers.
What I think thats its maybe a problem with the HDMI port in connection with Windows XP and the modded driver so that there is a problem...

This blows. I tried uninstalling the nVidia driver and no dice. I tried reinstalling the old driver and still nothing. My fan still sounds like a jet pack. Oh, well. At some point I'll do a clean install and that'll solve the problem. Until then, I'll just use the laptop to lift small objects and clean my house.

Thanks for the tip. So the driver only addresses heat issues? Are there any other improvements it offers (like better framerate)? If that's the case, I probably won't install it just yet, and wait for the next update.

If you tried uninstalling the driver and it didn't work, maybe you should just System Restore it to save you time from doing a clean install...It always solves driver problems for me...

However, I'm curious though...If I don't install this current update, will future updates still automatically be detected when they come out on Windows Update? Or do I need to install this current driver first, before any future ones can be installed?
