I am trying to install XP on my ISB IDE hard drive...Setup sees the hard drive it formats and copys files to but after the fiest boot up to go to the GUI mode it brings this error:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file."
I have tried everything i.e the recovery console and all..but no luck
any one mind to help me out?!?!

Do you have another CD to install from? I've had similar problems and the only way around it was to use another disc.

i tried with like 3 different disks...is it because i am installin on to external drive?
And when i restored my home made image of my desktop pc Xp it brings a BSOD while booting! -
Why are you using an external drive anyhow?
