I've been reading as much as I can in preparation for the upgrade to 7, but for all that's out there, I can't find the answer to this question:

I want to do a clean install to switch to 64-bit. Will installation involve starting from scratch with Dell Media Direct and then moving on to the Windows install? Or can I just do the clean install right over the current Vista partition?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain that doing a clean install over the Vista partition should work.
