Hi guys,
I recently did a hard drive format to install Windows 7 64-bit and since then the integrated array mic on my M1530 has not worked. I am not sure but I believe the integrated mic is run by the sound driver. I have tried to update my sound driver from the standard Microsoft High Definition Audio one to the Sigma Tel on the Dell drivers website but when I but when I try to install it says "Object not present please restart system and try again." I have tried this countless times now and have tried uninstalling the MS driver before installing the new one but after restarting Windows automatically re-installs the High Definition Audio.
Any thoughts?

Try the 64Bit driver from here http://www.xps-wiki.com/wiki/XPS_M1530_Vista_Drivers
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R185411.EXE v 6.10.0.5881 (definately works on W7 32-Bit) -
Was the same driver that I have been trying but this time I got a politer message saying "This is not the correct audio driver for this system"
It seems they don't work on 7. -
In that case try the one before it
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R190517.EXE 6.10.0.5866 - that one definately works on Vista x64 so should work on W7 x64 -
Again I get the same message when I try to install. Am I correct in assuming that the integrated mic is connected to the sound driver or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

Yes it is connected. I would possibly suggest there is something else going on with the laptop than just a driver issue
I've reformated my M1530 more times I would care to remember (one forced, several by choice when going from Vista 32 to Vista 64 and then to W7) and the drivers always work fine -
I seem to be picking up very very small amounts of sound through the mic which implies that it is not a driver issue and that its is in fact working but I can't seem to change the recording volume. Any ideas?
