Well, looking over the product brief it states 2GB and 4GB Turbo Memory Cards. There is no mention of 1GB cards. Also, on the driver page for Intel Turbo Memory, the current version read me notes state this for user pinning:

So, my guess is in order to do this, you'll need to upgrade to a 2GB chip. My 1730 only came with the 1GB chip. :( Would be interesting to test though...

    --------------------

Confirmed. Installed new driver and this is not offered for the 1GB card. 2GB and up. Sorry folks.

It works with 1Gb card as stated on the site it supports chipset 965 with 1gb card and 2gb and 4g card with new montevina.... it seems that we can't have more than 1gb in our santa rosa notebook, corrects me if i am wrong..... but it definitely supports the 1gb on the 965 chipsets.... can anyone download the new driver with their existing cards and see it works and have the option for user pinning....

    Regards

    Iverson

No it does not work. The driver is supposed to install the User Pinning GUI which is auto detected on a supported card. I just installed the latest available driver from Intel for Turbo Memory.

There is no User Pinning option in my Intel Turbo Memory Console. (Yes, I have the 1GB chip installed).

    For supported chipsets, see here

Intel® Turbo Memory supports the following Intel® chipsets:

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset family
    Intel® 4 Series Chipsets
Intel® 3 Series Express Chipset family
    Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset
    Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset

The chipset must be using one of the following controllers:

Intel® ICH10R Serial ATA AHCI controller hub
Intel® ICH9M/ICH9M-E Serial ATA AHCI controller hub
Intel® 82801IR Serial ATA AHCI controller hub (ICH9R)
Intel® 82801IR Serial ATA RAID controller hub (ICH9R)
Intel® 82801HBM Serial ATA AHCI controller hub (ICH8M)
Intel® 82801HEM Serial ATA AHCI controller hub (ICH8M-E)

I see no difference in performance as yet. I've only rebooted once though. Hibernation and Sleep wake up are about the same - no difference noticed yet...

    Time to drop $50 for the 2GB card I guess - ;)

I got the 4GB turbo memory today but it is a Half Mini PCIe. So it does not fit M1530 where it requires a Full Mini PCIe. The memory is going back to the vendor for refund since the Full Mini size is out of stock.

I set up ReadyBoost with my M1330 a few weeks ago using the fastest SanDisk memory and, if anything, startup takes longer than it did without it. So I'm considering taking it out and using it in my camera instead. Has anyone found that ReadyBoost helps with booting the system?

There's a small slot under the battery in the back and I assumed that it was an SD slot but the SD chip didn't fit so it appears to be some other flash format. The XPS is nice in that it has a media card slot and a ReadyBoost slot. If ReadyBoost doesn't help that much, I could use it as a secondary permanent drive.

The small slot you noticed is a SIM card slot. Used for access to cell phone providers who offer mobile broadband.

As for Readyboost and ReadyDrive, yes - I do notice a big difference in boot times using the Intel Turbo Memory card. The cards are cheap, pick one up and give it a go.

Also, I don't think the 2 or 4GB cards are supported on the 965 Chipset. This is the only info I can find:

    Supported Hardware:
    • Intel® 4 Series Chipset based platforms supporting AHCI or RAID mode and using
    2GB/4GB Intel® Turbo Memory modules

    • Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset based platforms supporting AHCI or RAID
mode and using 2GB/4GB Intel® Turbo Memory modules

    • Intel® 3 Series Express Chipset based platforms supporting AHCI or RAID Mode
and using 1GB Intel® Turbo Memory modules

Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset based platforms supporting AHCI mode and
using 1GB Intel® Turbo Memory modules

Oh, so it isn't a flash slot. Thanks.

It may be that there's some other bottleneck on my system them. I only have a 2.0 Ghz processor with integrated memory. The system runs fine once it is booted but it takes about two to three minutes to boot and log in.

It's a month old with a 320 or 350 GB hard drive and I've only installed a few applications. Perhaps it just takes a long time to load. The system takes up 1.22 GB of RAM without any programs launched.

If your system has 2GB or more ReadyBoost is not going to help. This is really something to implement on a system with 1GB or less.

Okay, thanks. I guess it turns back into a normal flash drive.

Some time has passed. Modules are available by now and not expensive.

Did anybody test the 2GB/4GB ITM modules by now in the M1330/M1530? Maybe he took it from another notebook just for testing purpose?

I'm aware about what intel writes in their product information regarding Santa Rosa compatibility.

Why did user "imzomnia" immediately sent the half size module back? He could at least have tested it. It shouldn't matter that much whether you'r able to attach it to the mounting holes. It's a light and small card. The only difference seems to be mechanical, but not electrical.

EDIT: Here's a link to a M1530 user successfully using the 4GB module:

In a german forum one person successfully reported the 4GB Module working in the XPS M1330:

    - Dell XPS M1330 Bios A14
    - 4GB HalfSize-ITM NVCPEHWR004G2
    - Vista Business 32Bit
    - Intel Turbo Memory Driver 1.7.0.1029 8/9/2008

. user pinning works and 2GB are allocated for this feature
. the hard drive is recognized as a hybrid drive with 396MB Cache

It's unknown where the remaining 4GB - 2GB - 396MB = 1652MB went. The original posting in the german forum:
    http://www.xps-forum.de/thread.php?postid=151210#post151210

Keep in mind that 2GB and 4GB Turbomemory cards have a different set of features:

Meanwhile it turns out 3GB are available for user pinning with the 4GB module.

I'm not mad at intel regarding this new ITM feature for the old chipsets. I'm happy if it works. This can be compared to the fact that the official PM/GM965 chipset datasheets only guarantee 4GB main memory operation. However 8GB work fine as well. I intend to keep my notebook and upgrade to 8GB one day.
