Does anyone know if the socket is the same as the i7-820QM, or when Dell plans to release this for the SXPS 1645?

Same socket, it should eventually be available as an upgrade.

Official launch date is still Q3'10, just so you know.

Are these updated CPU's more efficient and do they generate less heat? I would have to assume so...maybe we will FINALLY hit the sweet spot with a 740/840QM and the HD5730.

No. Only difference as I see it is clock speed. Google it.

    Yeah i see that now...almost seems pointless, 1.6GHz vs 1.73Ghz and 2.8Ghz turbo vs 2.93Ghz turbo? (740QM)

I think dell Australia offers the 740qm and 840QM and yes they are the same socket and just a slight clock speed difference.

Having the same TDP doesn't rule out the new processors being more efficient. Anybody have any more info on them?
