The wireless connection works great until my laptop goes to sleep and wakes up.. I notice the connection is too slow and when I ping my gateway I notice alot of delay from 200ms to 3000ms and request time out but if I go near the router it becomes fine...I assumed it might be the router but the connection works normally when I turn on my laptop ( not from sleep mode)
I have already adjusted my power settings to max performance and updated to the latest driver, I am not sure what the issue is..

Uninstall the drivers and and do not save settings, then when it picks it up again in device manager click delete driver by right clicking and tick the delete box.
Finally install the drivers from here

Hey Risko, wats up.. I noticed you posted the link for the driver 14.1 but the latest is 14.2.. is it because the 14.1 is more stable? just wondering -

Risco,
What speed do you get when you use your wireless? and what WLAN card do you have..for me when I use the cable I get 24mbits, when I use the WLAN I get 2-5... my router is Dlink-355 and it is an N router.. -
-
-
okay here is what I did now and I see some improvements and some issues..
I went to my router and changed the channel width to auto 20/40mhz.. it was on 20 before and I changed from AES/TKIP to AES then I changed the freq from the device manager from 20mhz to auto.. the connection went up to 12Mbps then after 10 seconds it kept getting disconnected..and requests time out -
Another thing, I have found that sometimes the wifi password can cause issues, it did with my PS3 and iPhone ( too long and had to change ). I would reset your router to factory settings, update the firmware and finally let the router set a password ( don't use the original one you had )

Yea sorry it is a 655..I upgraded the firmware yesterday on the router but I will try to do a factory reset for it.. btw in your device Manager for the centrino 6230, what does it show for the 2.4 and 2.5 channel width? mine only has 20mhz and auto..

I changed the width on the router to 20hz, not auto 20/40 and I changed the width on my card for auto ( for the 2 and 5 ghz) sounds stupid but I don't know whats going on..now I can reach from 10 - 18Mbps
After the change on the router, the connection shows up as 130Mbps ( my wireless connection) if I change it to Auto 20/40 then it goes to 300Mbps but I get alot of disconnects, I tested 3 laptops ( inspiron old module, brand new inspiron, and lenovo x220) all of them could reach around the max speed ( 24Mbps) but my xps cannot.. pretty disappointing after spending over 1600$ on it + SSD
The ironic thing is the Lenovo and Dell xps 15 have intel cards 6205 and 6230 and they cannot compete with the regular card on the new inspiron, is this! -

Hey Risco,
It wasn't the router I guess since it is working on all my other laptops.. here is what fixed my issue ( I have been testing for few days) , I tried to install the driver from Dell and they installed it too but it didn't work.. the issue seemed to happen again and again.
I tried to uninstall the driver and install it back in safe mode ( The driver from Dell website) BOOM! it worked fine but I had issues when the computer goes to sleep mode! it won't connect back to the network and I have to delete the connection and disable/enable again..
I removed the driver from the safe mode and I installed the driver you provided me with http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... 64-bit*&DownloadType= Software Applications
This fixed the issue, for some reason I needed to uninstall/install the driver from the safe mode which fix the issue, if I do it from the regular mode then it won't work out! Now Dell has sent me a new card.. I didn't install it yet but I was wondering.. can I keep it? lol -
Hi guys, I stumbled onto this thread via Google and registered to reply. I have also had problems with my wifi card (Intel Advanced-N 6230). It would only work on my relatively old Belkin router using WEP 128 or no encryption. WPA (TKIP/AES) would not work despite working for other laptops and my iPhone in my house. The biggest problem is that the card would work for simple browsing (for a short period) but as soon as I put some data through it (e.g. stream a YouTube video or copy a file over the network), it would trip out. The connection would say 'limited' and all available wifi networks, including my neighbours would just disappear until I rebooted. Sometime the laptop would take a while to shut down like the wifi card wasn't responding.
Anyway I found a way forward for now. I took the wifi card out of my work laptop, a HP ProBook (a Broadcom 4313 802.11 b/g/n) and replaced the intel one in my Dell. Guess what, it works a dream! Dell were about to send an engineer out to replace the card and aerial, but with this info they are just sending me a replacement card. I get the feeling either there is batch of faulty Intel N6230 cards out there or perhaps there is a compability issue with the L502x. Either way if you get really stuck you could try and get a Broadcom card, which I know works perfect. Hope this helps. -
I don't think it is the card.. try this now
go to start - type : run , type cmd , then type 192.168.0.1 -t or whatever your router ip is.. keep monitoring.. do you see alot of delays? lets start from here and see if we can fix it -
Hi, now that I've got the Broadcom installed and it's working I'm going to wait until the new card from Dell arrives (hopefully by Wednesday) then test it out. If I then run into the same problem as the first one, I will post back and see if we can work out a fix via software config
It's just a shame the Intel card hasn't been as easy to configure and as reliable as this other one. I've seen the Broadcoms cards on eBay for £10 ~ $15 from Hong Kong so that's my plan B if I get really stuck. Thanks. -
The older driver is stable but you have to install it from the safemode after removing the old driver and rebooting from the safemode too.. funny , I had the same issue you had but after troubleshooting for few days I fixed it and my card rocks now
The funny thing is they always send techs and want to replace stuff! like wat a waste of money for them and waste of time for us -
This is true lol. It would be cheaper if they invested money developing a better driver with intel.
Even if the card is droping packets with the latest driver, I'm really suprised it then 'trips out' the card completely and does nothing until a reboot. If it dropped packets only and I could re-connect without a reboot then it wouldn't be so bad. I can't imagine how latest driver passed user testing, if this is causing the problem.
I'm half tempted to put my Intel Wifi card back into my work laptop when I hand it back (soon), and keep this one hehe -
Please help me out. I bought the Dell XPS 15 L502x two days back. The problem is that my internet connection is a little erratic. Therefore at times there is no signal in the modem for a couple of minutes. During this time the wi-fi router is also idle. But when this happens, obviously my computer shows limited internet access and can't connect to the network. But the problem is when the modem is back live, my laptop still doesn't detect the signal. I tried everything i.e. disconnecting and reconnecting to the network. But it didn't help. And during this time the wireless indicator adjacent to the power button is also dead.
But when I restart my laptop, it automatically detects the network. And the wireless indicator gets back on.
I called up the customer service. The guy I asked me to update the driver through Dell website. I did that but it still doesn't help.
Please help me out. -
Hey rmzzz,
You need to go to safemode, uninstall the driver then reboot and go to safemode with networking, after you are in safemode with networking, download this http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... 64-bit*&DownloadType= Software Applications , this is the older driver and not Dell website driver, this should resolve the issue -
Hey, thanks, but I can't install or install anything in safemode, I get a message saying you have to leave safemode to install or install. How did you do It?
I've given up anyway and reinstated the 1030 and it works straight Away! -

Well the new wifi card arrived from Dell. Guess what, exact same problem so that rules out the hardware fault as the laptop/aerial work fine with the Broadcom card installed and tested before. I uninstalled the latest intel driver (14.1.2000) and installed the earlier driver recommended on this forum (14.01.1000) and it hasn't made a difference. Quite disappointing
I've changed the settings to card to wirelss mode '3' (3. 802.11g) in the Windows device manager settings for the Intel Advanced-N 6230. I suspect it will do the same, which makes me suspect a compatability issue with my Belkin 54g router (yes it's an old router). For now I will just live with it as I will be getting a new router in the very near future. It is quite anoying that a wifi router can disable my laptops wifi until I reboot. If I experience problems elsewhere (e.g. in hotels, airport) I'll probibly just order a Broadcom wifi card. No doubt Dell will ask me to factory restore to get to bottom of this, which I don't plan on doing since I have alot of software to re-install which I don't fancy. -
Can you open your cmd and type ping 192.168.0.1 -t or (whatever your router ip is) then try to download something and look at the pings and the latency in ms.. if you notice alot of latency above 50ms and requests time out then I assume there is an issue with the driver. what you should do is uninstall the driver from the safemode and reboot then go to the safemode and install the driver that I recommended ( Risco provided me with that link).. NOT the one from the Dell website.. I had the same issues but when I did this from safe mode.. everything worked like magic.
Also do not forget to change the wireless settings from the power options and put them on maximum performance for the battery and when regular.. change all the settiings. I am sure this will solve the issues, if you don't know how to change them, let me know and I will help you. -

I used the 45mb install found on the suggested link
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det... 64-bit*&DownloadType= Software Applications
Crucially, I am running driver version 14.1.1.3 (01/05/2011) when I now view the device properties even though the version of the installer above says 14.1.1.0
Zackor, what version driver is device manager reporting for you? -
-
What worked for me was using SafeMSI to enable the installer service in Safemode, uninstallling previous version, restarting in safemode WITHOUT networking, didn't work when I installed in safemode with networking, installed the newest driver in safemode without networking and restarted normally and my 6230 is installled and working
