    I downloaded the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager1......

    IT MAY BE BAD?

I went and put in an SD card to download pictures... Usually i would get a pop-up that asks me what program do i want to open it with. I would always use Picasa 3. I don't get that pop up anymore nor can i access anything to open it up with a 3rd party. I have to go in and click on Computer and right click on drive F to open File from there manually.. Any Ideas?

This also pops up in the task bar, after i put the SD card in the reader. I have to double click on it to see it.

Lets wait for some expert opinion from our good friends here in the forum...before we hastily remove the update.

On the GM965 chipset you should see ICH8M-E/M in device manager.

I have the PM965 which is the same deal (the GM includes onboard graphics) and the AHCI controller in Device Manager has always been shown as that (and should as that's what the southbridge is).
Not sure why yours originally showed differently. A quick google shows they are the same thing - 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E).

I installed 8.7 and have no problems. Autoplay on my SD reader works as normal.

Anything else i can do to get my Sd card reader and CD auto play to work again? Since i downloaded the INF.. i lost both. Auto play is checked in control panel. Shell service is running. SO i can't figure it out..

Also, i amhaving a wireless issue now.. Where i have to manually go in and click repair wireless service.. The top one... here is a snip...

    what chipset do i have?

    CPU-Z show i have PM965 whereas Intel's Chipset identification Utility shows i have GM965.

whats the difference between either of em(PM & GM)?

so far i have installed Intel matrix storage manager, and i not have any of such prob as _GMAN_ quoted here.

the only change i noticed is that harddisk on which, Enable advanced performance mode under policies tab in device manager was unable to check(disabled) is enabled now, so i can check advanced performance mode n apply. earlier even it wasn't able to enable advanced performance mode as the option was grayed out.

    does it mean anything?

earlier in most thread regarding AHCI driver they say, the drives are configured to run in AHCI mode while installing iaAHCI.inf during vista setup.

how is this different, does it has any performance impact? so far i haven't noticed anything yet.

GM = PM + integrated X3100 graphics core.

    M1530 : have PM965
M1330 : have PM965 if sold with nVidia GeForce 8400M GS and have GM965 when sold with intel integrated graphics.

    Unfortunately not.

[x] Enable write caching on disk
is particular useful - even moren an notebooks which have a battery and data loss due to unfinished write commands can hardly occur. You will be able to measure the write performance gain with tools such als ATTO. In intel RAID setups you have enable write caching in the IMSM console.

    [ ] Enable advanced performance
is just a compatibility setting. By checking it you reintroduce a bug contained in early versions of Windows Server 2003. Some applications were dependent on this faulty behavior. That applies to some very rare apps with no continuous support. I have it disabled for that reason. Unfortunately I only have a german source that describes this in more detail:
