I just got an email from their Hot Gadget team saying the skin is available now:

looks like it covers the touchpad, but not the buttons.. (edit: it says standard coverage includes trackpad and mouse buttons) who's gonna be first?![]()

gonna wait for a 50% off coupon =))

going to cut my own
IMO... putting the covering on the trackpad is enough... it's where most fingerprints (and spills/crap) occur... its kinda moot putting it on the cover... my laptop front is pristine after 5 months without the skin(had the skin on for 6 months, then had to replace the back of the lcd panel... didn't reapply)... -
Mine is already on order!!!
-
Just orderd one kind of expensive but will be worth it in the long run
-
I have them on my i-pod Touch 32GB's, first and second gen, well worth applying keeps the whole thing scratch free and easier to wipe clean.
I've mastered the art of applying them some people have problems with creases or air bubbles. Easiest way is too apply a proper amount of spray so its dripping wet and squeegee excess fluid out and let to dry for a proper 24 hours no less.
They give a nice tact to the touch of the item your applying to.
Love them! -
-
I don't understand this. I dont want to protect the palmrest, track pad and screen bezel. I want to protect the SCREEN...the part of the computer I actually look at?
-
This protects all areas except the screen, there are plenty of screen protectors out there if thats all you want to protect!!!
-
-
But I have heard that occasionally, they'll send out better coupons (although limited use or limited time) to their Facebook fans and followers on Twitter -
I'm thrilled they finally decided to make an invisibleSHIELD for the Studio XPS 16, now I'll just have to wait for a deal.
If you are like me and are holding out for a coupon, keep your eyes on Facebook and/or Twitter for their daily specials:
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Invisible-Shield-by-ZAGG/49243704543
Twitter: http://twitter.com/zaggdaily -
is this available for the 13" too?
-
the laptop doesnt need protection, the materials are fine. it just makes it look worse
-
I've never seen an invisibleSHIELD on a laptop up close, but I've seen them on smaller products, and the slight haziness of the shield seems to be well worth its protection. The 1640 is pretty, but is just too glossy for its own good and longevity. -
How do they package it when shipping? And i wonder if theres any way to get this sent to india, im all for keeping the notebook scratch and fingerprint free.

they probably put it in those cardboard tubes used to ship diplomas/pictures (Bestskinsever used those)

Thank you for your inquiry on a invisibleSHIELD for your Dell Studio XPS 13. Our New Products team does have a program setup for what they consider a 'hot gadget'. You can submit a request on the following link:
http://www.zagg.com/hotgadgets/index.php
This request will be submitted to our New Products team to see if the Dell Studio XPS 13 is a device they are looking for. You should receive a response from our New Products team within 2 to 3 business days. Should this be a device we are looking for, they will contact you with further information for a 'hot gadget' device.
If you do not hear from me within 3 business days, unfortunately, we are not able to create a invisibleSHIELD for your Dell Studio XPS 13. -
^^^
I just emailed them to let them know i was interested in an invisibleshield for the sxps 13. Hopefully they follow through. -

I've got one of these on my ipod, works great.
Waiting for a sale, then getting it for the 1640.
Just an FYI Zagg now has a sign up where when they have a sale you'll get a text message. -
-
It's on one of the large video ipods, which wasn't cheap. I super baby all my gadgets and electronics so they are pristine and I can get a good price on them when I want to upgrade and sell them. -
Anyone already tried the invisible shield on the SXPS 16? Very curious!
-
i am also curious about how the shield itself feels, i wouldnt want it around my keyboard if it doesnt feel alright.
-
Okey guy's I just pulled the trigger and ordered the invisible shield for the SXPS 16 with a 35% off code (zaggdaily). Will update when I applied the shield, it should be here within 1-2 weeks!
-
I was told mine shipped about a week ago so it should be here any day now. (I hope) I only have another week and a half before I head overseas.
I have seen the invisibleshield on a few other products but never a laptop. If any laptop needed it though the 1640 would be on the top of that list. -
Haha totally agree! Post some pics here when you managed to apply the shield! -
I would be interested in this too but would like to see pics of it installed and if it helps with the finger prints. This machine is really nice but it looks like I let a bunch of gooey fingered kids loose on it.

i have the (Similar) product on my m1330's aluminium palmwrist... helps a lot -
I already got one for my SXPS ...it is perfect...no more ugly fingerprints everywhere (given that your hand is not extraordinary oily)....but you also lose the super glossy, shiny, and smooth look of the notebook.
Really worth the price.

Wow nice job!
Thanks for posting pictures!
How is the palmrest? Is it not too rough? Is it nice around edges? -
you did a great job on applying the invisibleshield and I think it looks good.. I'd rather it look like that than glossy but with smudges and fingerprints
I cant really tell in the pics, but does the palmrest coverage extend just to the metal edge (so just covers the glossy black)? or does it also cover the metal, and if so, how far down does it extend?
thanks -
-
cuteneo...can I just send you my machine and have you apply it? Damn you did a good job! Every time I try to use a plastic film I get bubbles galore especially if the surface is irregular and I don't see anything by the Dell logo or Intel/Vista stickers. Really nice job.
-
@Jeroentje91 The palmrest actually feel a lot nicer...feel softer because of the material they use, I guess. The surface is not rough, I think it is even more slippery than before, which I think is because of the lower friction. They have nice round edge and perfectly made actually.
@speedline yes it does cover the metal part to almost the edge of the notebook so it doesn't look that obvious that I had a protector on. Even the screen bazel part, it extend to the leather part and even down to the dell logo light at the sides.
@tsger It does cover the touchpad, but I don't think it does affect the responsivenedd that much. Anyway, if you don't want it, you don't have to put it on. It is seperate from the touch pad part. Also, the two buttons are covered.
@wlepse haha, thx. It took me hours to get the whole notebook done. -
Nice! Ordered my shield a couple of days ago, hoping I can apply it as good as you did
+1 Rep!
-
Zagg is now offering 50% off using code memday09 good till May 27th from what I read.
-
What a great deal for Memorial Day.
I'd really like to pull the trigger on an invisibleSHIELD, but I'm still a little worried about how it changes the aesthetic of the laptop. I can definitely live without the high glossiness but, from cuteneo's pictures, the shield seems to give it a cheap plastic texture.
I was wondering if anyone had stories of delight or horror to share about their experience with the shield. Also, I would greatly appreciate any additional pictures that might put my mind at ease.
Thanks in advance. -
Hey I was wondering if the shield makes the laptop more hot? I have it on my macbook and it raises the temperture a bit.
-
+rep, coupon works! with 50% off, final price is $19.97. -
-
just bought one shield for studio 16 from zagg, final price is $22.96 by paypal. item is $19.97+$2.99 usps 1st class shipping.
-
I have also just ordered one today after receiving the email about 50%.
I bought one of these for my iPhone and I must admit it was a complete and utter pain to fit. I did a perfect job, but after a month or so some of the edges have begun to peel and have dirt under them. It does a good job of protecting it though and keeps the aesthetics of the device until you check up close.
Given the price, I thought I'd get one for my SXPS 16 and give it a try. If it ruins the look too much, then I'll take it off. On such a large surface, I feel it will detract from the appearance, but my biggest objective is to keep the device looking like new for the entirety of it's life. -
Just reminding everyone that today is the last day to use the 50% off coupon code "MEMDAY09" toward an invisibleSHIELD for your Studio XPS 16.
Also a final request for anyone with additional pictures of their new shields. -
Hi all,
I finaly recieved mine!
Unfortunately I'm not able to upload pictures right now but I will try to describe my experiences.
Installation:
People when you try to install the shield please call a friend to help because it is almost impossible to apply the shield perfect on you own! Second make sure you use the shieldspray a lot, otherwise the shield will stick immediately and it is then impossible to remove the imperfections. After squeezing for about an hour the shield looked okay, although with some air bubbles that I couldn't remove and some imperfections.
3 days later
At this moment my lapp looks amazing I have to say! Most of the bubbles and imperfections are gone and the laptop still has its shiny look. But most important without the fingerprints! I already tried with a knife to scratch it, but it is impossible
I didn't apply the palmrest and touchpad shields because in my opinion that is not needed. I just wanted protection from scratches.
For the info, the big shield protects the whole top of the lid including the aluminium strip and a part from the hinges. Only the leader is free of protection.
EDIT: I managed to upload some pictures.
-
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but I was just wondering what you think about the texture of the shield.
It appears to be very glossy, but that may just be the lighting. It also appears to give a rough painted plastic look, but that may again be due to the lighting.
Any thoughts?
