Im not completely knowledgeable on the subject so please bear with me.
Isnt it true that there is a different type of connection overseas(specifically Iraq) or is it the amount of power that runs through. For my first deployment im definitely picking up a UPS and a spare battery for my laptop...but isnt there some type of power converter I need too?
- What VA should I pick for my laptop? (1500VA 1285VA 500VA etc.)
- What exactly am I looking to buy because of this difference in connections overseas?
Thanks for any leads and help that anyone may provide me.

Well, I'm from Kuwait. I think we share the same electricity as Iraq and the USA. It's Europe I think that has a different voltage (110vac vs.220) Anyway, no need to worry. I bought several notebooks from the states including an XPS M1710 and they all worked fine, the new chargers have an auto converter, it supplies enough electricity to the notebook and no more. All you need is a cable convertor.

Hold on, I just read some bad reviews on the link I provided. You get the idea though, right?

Oops, I guess I almost messed up your XPS
I'm actually typing this on an X61 that I bought from the USA, no problems at all. -
i'm @ the desert right now also.....not iraq though. anyways, they use 220v over here but they also supply power converters to everyone. i have a dell xps 1330 and it can be used in either 110v or 220v. i think most laptops can.

I'm in Iraq right now and they only use 220v. I wouldn't worry about a stepdown converter unless you absolutly have to have 110v. As long as you use a good surge protector you'll be fine with wall power. Your laptops power supply should be autosensing and take 110-220v. If you're Army, you can pick up a surge protector at Camp Bhuering or any PX/BX that you go to.
Believe me, you don't want to lug around the extra weight of a power converter if you don't need to. -
Get a complete care before you deploy!
