Dell escalations is replacing the grainy screen on the XPS14 L401x with a B140XW01 Au Optronics WXGA, according to the service tech who is going to replace the screen.

I've never heard of this company before but willing to take a chance because the current screen on the XPS 14 makes my eyes hurt. I had asked for an LG panel to be sent but the Dell escalations said he couldn't select or tell me

Dell tech said it was the same resolution as the stock panel on the XPS 14 and the grainniness was probably a function of the low resolution. I don't really believe that as the M1330 had a smooth screen with similar resolution.

Anyone heard of this panel and if it suffers from the graininess? Do you know what the stock panel # is on the XPS 14? Is it a Samsung? If so, I am willing to take a chance with the new panel.

    Thanks

That's the screen I had. Yep, pixelated and grainy, poor viewing angles.

Thanks for your reply. That's sad. Dell has really fallen a long way in customer's eyes by cheap components and customer escalation reps that adamantly deny there are no "known issues" with Dell components such as M1330 NVIDIA issue and now the poor screen on the XPS 14.

I thought the xps 14 would be the solution to the M1330 nightmare(10 repairs, 4-5 motherboards, in 2 years). I'm a business customer and we are at the point of ordering 20-30 new laptops. I pray they are not Dells.

I had one of the 'thin profile' AUO screens in a Lenovo Y560. It was so grainy it gave me a splitting headache just looking at it. I think all the thin AUO panels have that problem. I returned it to get the SXPS 16 instead. It's amazing how fast mainstream LCD panels are going downhill.
