This is a notebook review site (hence the name notebookreview.com).

There is a huge section filled with reviews of notebooks. Have you tried looking there?

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4085

Or better yet, open google.com, type "dell xps m1730 review" and hit enter. You will find tons of reviews and opinions.

    Without the 8800m gtx's it's like a Ferrari Enzo with a 2 litre engine.

The potential is there but without the power from the graphics cards it's just a big, heavy, expensive brick that isn't actually that quick.

I returned mine, will be ordering one with dual 8800's or the alienware m17x. :)

What you have to ask yourself is do you want to wait for the latest and greatest. If you answer yes you might as well stop looking because it is always around the corner and never quite in reach.

I get great performance on mine but Vista is the biggest handicap. Untill they fix those issues it doesn't matter what card you have under the hood.

Sorry if it sounded like that Maikus, I'm not saying the 8800 is not worth the wait but when do you draw the line? For me it was get the M1730 at the beginning of October or wait 4 months for the upgrade, I don't like waiting. If I did wait then what's to stop me saying "since I've waited 4 months for the 8800 why not wait another 6 months for the 9800 because that card will murder Crysis with ease?" Just my opinion not that its worth that much. ;-)

I returned mine because of the cruddy SLI driver support [I was using XP]....I didn't really have a problem with 8700's,just the fact that 90% of the time BOTH were not being utilised plus a lot of bluescreens and flickering screen problems.I see Dell still haven't updated the original driver, which is poor really, and in retrospect,I am glad I returned it just for that reason.

I can forsee a lot of angry people when the mobile 8800's or whatever come out, just because the driver problems will be the same for whatever card it is in SLI....unless nvidia and others sort their stuff out.....you can find plenty of people b1tching about alienware 9750's,dell XPS1730's and toshiba sli rigs if you look,so its not just Dell that have SLI problems.

With Crysis out now, and,at a guess, easily capable of reducing a mobile 8800 sli to a blubbering mess,I think we will hear even more disgruntled owners wondering why they paid for 2 cards, with a corresponding notebook and power adaptor size increase....just to find out that they get the same performance whether SLI is enabled or not.

This is all purely in my opinion of course, and from my 3 + weeks with the dell 1730.

Apart from the SLI,it was a really nice notebook,Raid 0 is awesome as was the general speed and quality of the system,a word of warning about the size though......its huuuuge!!,and made my 15" vostro [which is one of the larger 15" notebooks]seem like a puny little ultraportable.
