Someone's offering me this for US$500.00
However, I'm worried about the overheating issue.
Scared that I might waste US$500.00
    Any feedback guys?

Don't get it unless you really want some specific feature that you can't get on a comparable SB or IB machine (1080p RGBLED I guess?). Otherwise I'm pretty sure you can find a comparable SB or IB machine at a similar price... or at least an l501x if you must have an XPS.

Is it really that bad, i hear as long as you monitor the temp and add a 130w power supply along with a bios update it will run fine and that goes for the 1640, 1645 and 1647.

    Regards,

    Brian.

That's quite a powerful machine, it will generate a lot of heat, I would not use that system without a good cooling pad and maybe even a 150w power supply.
