    Hi all,

I've been reading conflicting info about Nvidia's optimus not working on any of the new XPS 17's 1080p screens. Is this true? Is there an alternative screen that Dell offers that is available in 1080p in Canada or US?

If not, can I disable the Nvidia in the BIOS an only use the i5 2520 graphics when not gaming as to save power on the xps17?

    Thanks.

On the Dell Canada page I have these options:

    17.3" HD+ (900p) LED Display with 2.0MP HD Webcam
    Selected

    17.3" HD+ (900p) LED Display with 2.0MP HD Webcam & Facial Recognition
    + $20.00 Select

    17.3" FHD (1080p) with 2.0MP HD Webcam
    + $100.00 Select

17.3" FHD (1080p) with 2.0MP HD Webcam & Facial Recognition

Which ones aren't the 3D screens? If I get a 3D screen can I turn off the Nvidia in the BIOS?

That's why I'm confused. Here's the site see for yourself XPS 17 Laptop Details | Dell Canada

Maybe because I only want the I5 Processor it allows me to get the non-3D screen? If I customize the one on the far right it lists 3D, but not the others.

Not exist options in XPS BIOS to disable OPTIMUS.
if listed screens are not 3D then OPTIMUS is not disabled.

Can you disable the NVIDA card all together in the BIOS?

So what I'm seeing on the site, from the available models only the one on the far right has the option for 3D?

What is the facial recognition all about?

    Many thanks.

You can't disable NVIDIA card in the BIOS or in other way.
Listed screens in Canadian site for i5 looks not 3D.
Facial recognition is software to login in Windows with your face, if you search in youtube maybe you find some video about.

Wow. That's completely different than what it looked like yesterday when I ordered my XPS.. maybe the EPP site is different?

Dell's UI team need to be taken out behind the shed and flogged with a rubber chicken. Not being able to clearly delineate options from one another isn't just bad UI, it's costing them money...
