I was trying to buy a studio xps 1645 with RGB display from Dell outlet, but, its not available anymore anymore  . I was wondering, is RGB display overrated  ? If I buy a new Studio 16 with ATI 5730 and WLED display, will it be a good decision?
I have watched RGB display in the past and loved it.

I must admit I have not seen the RGB screen myself. Having only had experience with the WLED, I do have to say that I absolutely love it though. It is a fantastic screen, and the 1920x1080 resolution is very crisp!

Those with RGB will say that it is far superior, but those that have never seen them are satisfied with the non-RGB screens.....

I though there was a thread comparing the two, but in my opinion I would rather spend the extra money on an SSD and just stick with the other 1080 screen... Only my 2 though.

Coming from an m17x with an RGBLED screen to a studio XPS with a WLED I notice no difference in quality or beauty.

I will admit the alienware RGB was amazing.....but so is my SXPS to the same extent. Im sure a nit picky graphic designer may notice some minor difference in a certain app. But as a computer scientist and a hard core gamer I notice no difference.

Mine was shipped out on Sunday and it still says in transit in US as of noon Wednesday...I'm hoping it's recieved into the Calgary depot by tonight so I get it tomorrow. Others have said it takes 2 business days by ground to get from Texas to Calgary. I can't contain my excitement.

I have it, its fantastic. I am sorry you cannot get it for purchase right now. Having said that, I have a friend who has the 1645 with WLED..and they really enjoy it. I think, either way you are going to get a really good screen with what you decide to order!! :)

Just my observation. I have the Studio 17 with the RGB LED and just received the XPS M1730 which has the regular Samsung 1920 x 1200 panel.
I mention this because some the the 1730s have an LG panel which is not that great in PQ.
I have compared both of these notebooks side by side and both have the same PQ.
If anything the 1730 seems to have richer more vibrant colors without even calibrating. I had to calibrate the Studio 17 to get a good picture.

Now that I've had this RGBLED for almost a year, I cannot go back. I look at my roomate/friends/random people's laptops and just go ewww.

Its gorgeous. Especially since its a wide-gamut monitor :)

I must admit this is the best screen I've seen besides the M17-R2 Alienware RGB
I'm super happy with it and it costs a lot less then the M17X-R2 :p

For me it more about size,, Dont like the boarders on the Wled, 15.6 Vrs 16... Yes the RGB looks great- our S1558 with 1080 looks very nice as well and over time if i used it i would notice the change less and less. My main concern having the RGB is if something fails on it and i need service - will Dell have a screen to send out?

There are 2 1640s in the outlet right now with RGB- so i would guess you could get the 1645,1647 from time to time- would be based on what is in stock at the time

See I noticed no difference between my RGB in the m17x I had or the WLED I have in my SXPS. Granted Im no graphics guy, rather just a humble computer scientist, I just did not see a difference to make me lust after RGB over WLED. I guess this may be like an audiophile listening to speakers vs an audio enthusiast.

Yea I myself do graphics and film work. Lots of color grading and touching up. I already had a wide-gamut monitor in the Dell 2408wfp and it was already calibrated and set up perfect for my work-flow. If I had a choice, I didn't want to interrupt that work-flow by throwing in a non wide-gamut screen. It just so happens that the RGBLED is the widest-gamut laptop screen out at this level, a perfect match, so it was an easy decision. I based my purchase off of that and then was pleased by all the other great things about it aside from its wide gamut. All I had to do was set up the color profiles and its almost a perfect match to the 2408wfp, an ultrasharp series monitor. Check my sig. :)

    edit: updated, it was old:
