The real problem here is that the laptop can't even run the component it has: GPU runs at 100 MHz (little more) instead of 635 MHz (nominal); CPU runs at 1.2 GHz instead of nominal 2.1 (3.1 with turbo boost).
    A 650m would have brought:
    - higher price
    - more heat, so even worse performance
    would it be worth it?

Sorry if I consider a couple hundred bucks on a $2k machine "basically the same price"
The $1999 XPS is spec'd with a GT640 the Mac a GT650, the screen is obviously better on the Mac.

Yes most of the rest of the XPS specs are somewhat better - the point was this XPS is approaching "fanboy pricing"
I am glad I bought the Inspiron 17R SE, 16GB, GT650, 256GB SSD, 1 TB HDD and still less than the base XPS 15

i'm glad you are happy with your Inspiron but that is a whole other market and you can't really compare the two.

Uh, practically everyone on the planet would just buy those components themselves, in which case the price would still be hundreds less than the Dell.

depends what you get, i've tried many variations and only the Asus N56 came out ahead. That one goes for 1200 + 670(samsung ssd) + 100 for 16gb Ram and you are at about 2000, for 300 more you can have dell cover you on the hardware side. I've already had an SSD fail on me so this is big

Why buy such an amazingly expensive SSD when there are cheaper, well-reviewed 512GB SSDs out there?

just using a comparison because the XPS with the SSD uses the Samsung 830

also for stability issues, and from my experience, the Samsung is more stable and faster than teh crucial m4 which is allot cheaper

OK! The "ayes" have it! It's considered an overpriced notebook for the spec and the issues.

Now, that you've got it out of your system, don't let me catch you in legitimate threads crying about the price. (Or I should say, "don't let me see any reports from owners that you're disrupting their thread with overprice whine.")

This thread has served it's purpose. It would take hundreds more votes on the "nay" side to balance out the difference.

    So... Thread closed. ;)

And no, I don't own this notebook nor am I in the market for a notebook at this time. <--- This disclaimer is for the conspiracy theorists who don't like their whining to be curbed.
