VGA isn't a digital protocol. DVI is the digital equivalent. I don't think that you can go VGA to HDMI because HDMI requires a digital signal. If your TV has a DVI-I port which can accept analog and digital DVI connections, it is possible to convert VGA to analog DVI, but I'm not sure how common or cheap it is.

Is there a problem with continuing to use VGA? I don't think you have another option right now...without buying a VGA to DVI adapter. But if your computer won't output a digital signal, your picture won't get much cleaner than what you currently have.

The HDMI would be better but your computer has no way of outputting a digital video signal. You may as well stick with what you have if it already looks good.

The first cable seems too cheap. The second converter looks alright but again, you probably won't get a better signal quality because you're still starting with an analog signal.

I would add that I don't think you will see much difference even if you were able to get a digital signal.

Sure their *may* be less noise, but HDMI only has higher supported resolutions, but VGA can still support well over 1080p. But quite simply HDMI at these resolutions is simply more convenient and reliable because it carries audio with it and is digital. VGA should be perfectly fine and I don't think you will notice a picture quality difference going from VGA to DVI to HDMI or any combination there of.

HDMI provides less noise and more sharpness at higher resolutions that your TV (most likely) wouldn't even support.
