    Well...
Its not a question if its "worth" or not, its just based on personal taste...
I hate/love vista... give or take...
but i'm gonna stick with it.
    my vista runs fast.
XP would run fast as heck too... but vista's kinda grown on me *blushes*
    :)

Have you reinstalled or tried to remove all the bloatware that came with your system?

Just do a clean Vista install, you will be 100% more happy with your notebook. It's such a sad state coming from the factory.

I'll just say a general warning about many tweaks out there - they are mostly meant to satisfy people who want Vista to act like XP (regardless of what new features they disable, and regardless of performance hits they might suffer) because that was what they became used to, and these guys just can't adapt to a newer (and IMHO better) OS.

I'd give Vista at least two weeks on default settings to see whether it performs well before you begin messing with it. As always, when modifying your OS with tweaks, it is best if you go out and search for a tweak to resolve a specific issue rather than go searching for general tweaks that claim to boost performance without giving a clear method behind what they do. Also, if you don't understand what a tweak does, how it would benefit you (specifically), and also how to undo the tweak, don't bother applying it.

Give Vista a chance. SP1 is stable and fast.

I'm much happier with Vista than XP. Vista runs really well on my M1530. Not one crash and programs open very fast.

well you could always go dual boot as well, ive done that with my m1530 so i can have the best of both worlds.

I have alot of older pc games i adore and vista really isnt an option for those.

Might have trouble finding drivers for it. Do your homework first before doing so otherwise you'll be screwed.

I tried to use Vista for months. I really gave it a go, with SP1. Also did a fresh install right away to get rid of dell bloat.

Then I disabled aero and a bunch of other operating bloat. Essentially to make it look and act like XP. Used it this way for a good while.

My primary use for the machine is web browsing and gaming (city of heroes). My primary issue with vista was longer load times in the game, but my secondary was all the stuff Vista does in the background. I hated that the system grinded away and I had no idea what it was doing. Also media player would skip in the middle of songs and I couldn't get to the bottom of it.

So last week I went to xp. Internet looks the same, music plays without skipping, and my game load times and fps went up. For the primary things I use it for, it's an improvement.

My wife on the other hand just got a new vaio and loves vista on it. She doesn't game, she likes the shiny of Aero, and the things it does to make life easier for the less-advanced computer user is fine for her.

So it's your perspective, I suppose.

    Quoted for emphasis.

Sadly, I've encountered the dreaded BSOD on Vista when I came back from a 30min. trip... couldn't diagnose what it was that caused it but I hope it doesn't happen again. Vista's been running fine now for the 2 to 3 weeks I've used it (daily). Windows XP surprisingly never gave me the BSOD.
