Hey guys, I was just wondering if it was bad to have say close to a 2.5W draw (about 500ma) on the USB port at all times when the computer is on. I have a laptop cooler that is hooked up to the USB port and it draws about 2.25W from that port and don't want to burn out any circuitry.

That's the laptop equivalent of the "I'm not touching you" game. And I don't think electronics get annoyed very easily.

i am assuming this is a laptop............but my laptop only lets me draw up to 100mA (an asus G1). but i am pretty sure you have nothing to worry as most ratings are usually continual ratings.

Yeah this is for a laptop. I am using it on an Inspiron 9300 currently and it cools it very well to the point where the gpu and cpu fans don't need to turn on, and this is with a Geforce 6800 go. I was worried because I have heard on the Latitude X300s which I also have, that a high USB draw over time have destroyed many motherboards. And I am worried that Dell uses the same usb power circuitry and it could happen to my other laptop. I also have a new M1330 and might get a cooler for it too if no one has ever had anything like that happen to their M1330.
