I bought an XPS 1530 with the 8600GT Video Card.

Is it possible to open the system up and replace the video card with a newer, better model?

Has anyone done this? Is it risky?

    Thanks!

Nope.Dell uses proprietary modules, so unless a better card was available as an option to start with , for the 1530,you`re stuck with it.

    Possible? Yes.

    Realistic? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Unless you have mad engineering skills, no.

I upgraded my XPS 1530 from an 8400m to an 8600m, but I had to completely replace the motherboard. The motherboard cost $200 off eBay and it took me 5 hours to replace (because I had never done it before).

However, your 8600m in your XPS 1530 cannot be upgraded because the 8600m is the fastest card the 1530 can support right now. In other words, you will not find an XPS motherboard with, say, an 8800m or so, because it doesn't exist.

why upgrding isn't it ddr3 !!! for ur info 86m gt DDR3 better than the new 9500m gs , i mean it's already the fastest in market( after 8700 which is an oc 86) if u willing to 8800 it's only in 17 + screen's and it's expensive with strong cpu ... heavy , thick , expensive , i suggest u a desktop pc :D

the m15x has an 88 and so does the upcoming m860tu. Not exactly sure if you named those because of the horrible grammar and spelling but I'm pretty sure you mentioned that.
