I want to change the media direct button on the dell xps m1530 to something else, like mozilla. Is that possible? If so how would i be able to do it?

don't know much about remapping but maybe the media direct to boot ubuntu guide can help.

Registry Key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell\Media Direct\PathName"
will be your friend. -

If you change that, would it still boot into MediaDirect when you hit the MediaDirect button while the system is off? -
I don't think so. Once you remap (there was a thread here about this) I think it stays till you change it back to whatever.
Probably you could log on to mozilla without booting up and start browsing notebook review forums... ;-)
and post temperatures like 10 or 20 C!!!!

Yes it will.
Except: If your MediaDirect installation is already broken. A broken MediaDirect installation boots up your "normal" Windows and then launches MD application.
Is it possible to change the media direct button on the XPS M1530
