Hey people, I've heard some people say some things about the Dell 1515 wifi card not being great and I was wondering if it's possible to replace it with something else, like an Intel one?

I'm especially interested in this because I know Intel has pretty decent Linux compatibility whereas other wifi chips can be a bit dodgy.

You can replace it. You can probably use any half-height mini PCIe wifi card, including the Intel 5100 and 5300, which are, sadly, somewhat hard to find these days.

I have the 3945ABG card in mine from intel. Runs like a dream. Cheap, around 25 bucks or less.

It's not a half-height card; it won't work in the 1340 WWAN slot. It may work in WWAN or UWB slot if you haven't populated those, but I can't guarantee it. Better off looking for a half-height 5100 or 5300. I don't believe they make a half-height version of the 4965.

Yes you can replace the dell 1515. I did it myself and I am not too much of a tech wiz. I installed the Intel 5300 on it, but its pretty much the same thing, only difference is if you have a fast internet connection and a good draft n router you can get much better speeds with the 5300. I believe my intel 5300 will max out at 450Mbps in turn the Dell 1515 will max out at around 300Mbps. Again only if you have a fast ISP.

PS I ordered mine from Shanghai...took forever and a day...but well worth it!
