Ok, so I got my Dell XPS M1710 with Windows XP (MCE) at the end of 2006, which meant I received a free upgrade disk for Vista Home Premium when it was released. At the time I decided to wait to upgrade, because of issues I'd heard about with drivers, performance, games compatibility etc. After a while I just pretty much forgot about it and I haven't really felt a strong need to upgrade since then.
However, I'm planning on getting a bigger hard drive soon and this seems like a good point to make the switch to Vista, if I'm ever going to with the current laptop.
My main concern is whether game performance will suffer much in Vista compared to XP (I've tried to do a bit of research but most comparisons seem to be from around the time when Vista launched). Recently some of the more graphically intensive games I've played were Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock. At some point in the future I'll probably be picking up stuff like Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead and Prince of Persia.
My specs are:
Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz
2GB RAM
GeForce Go 7950 GTX 512MB
Could anyone give me some advice?

I personally would... but that's me, looks better, more stable(IMO)
game performance will not be hurt much the difference between say XP and Vista would be like 61 and 60 frames/sec respectively. -
honestally, it really does not make much diference...
Personally, id want 3gb ram for vista... but that is me... heck, id want 3gb for xp too
so really, its up to you.
Im going to vote vista, because you already have it -
+1 for Vista , Why ? Stable , Cleaner and Powerful

Thanks guys, I guess I'll go with Vista and maybe consider a RAM upgrade too.

Yeah, up it to 4gb on one of those crazy ram sale deals and upgrade the os. I love vista.

I upgraded to vista on my M170 and I thought the screen font and adjustable sizing looked a lot better than XP.
Is it worth upgrading to Vista? (M1710)
