I have an XPS 17'' on order with the i5 processor and was wondering if I can expect this heat/fan issue on this processor as well? Feedback seems to be good on the 17 but this issue is concerning....although I'm sure it will be fixed or a workaround will be soon?

I've got an i7 XPS 17 3D (L702x). Compared to my Sony Vaio F series i7, this XPS is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler and soooo much quieter :) Yeh the fan kicks in from time to time but at least it's just a rushing air sound and not an annoying whine/whistle which was present on the Vaio.

As for heat, well I'm amazed at how cool this thing keeps. My left palm rest gets warm when I'm kicking the GPU's @ss whilst gaming, but it's definitely nothing to write home about. Apart from that, general browsing internet and other day to day stuff creates very little heat.

I'm currently sitting with an i7-loaded 702x on my lap, cool as a frozen cucumber. There is a faint fan whisper, but no more.

OK, I'm not running Skyrim flat out or anything, but this quad-core lappy is still cooler than my old 15" Vaio SZ71 with a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo. Any laptop will run warm to hot if thrashing the C/GPU, and this one is no different.
