    Hi,

I have the option of getting a replacement Studio 14 with either NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M 1GB graphics with Optimus or ATI Mobility radeon HD 5450 1gb.

I previously owned a M1330 that had the Nvidia 8400GS. I had the motherboard replaced 5 times because of heat dissipation issues.

Does the 420M have similar issues and how does it compare to the 5450? Frame rates, heat issues, power consumption etc.

    Thanks,

    Definitely go with the 420M.

The Radeon 5450 is barely better than integrated graphics. It's horrid.

420M has different arhitecture when compared with the old 8400M, so it should not have those issues, altough nobody knows yet as is a recently released gpu.
Also 420M is much faster than 5450 and 8400M altogether, but it does have higher power consumption than 5450.

I'm also getting this replacement My Studio 1340 died again. It came with a Geforce 9400M with SLI boost. Is the 420M an equal or better? If it is better should I see a improvement in the gaming performance.
