Is the Studio XPS 1640 really a "Lap" top?

So after seeing temperatures of the base of the Studio XPS 1640 from NBR's own official review of their test unit, has anyone who has a Studio XPS 1640 tried using the laptop on their laps for long periods of time? Does it really get as hot as it feels?

If you are previously an M1530 owner, does it feel heavier than your M1530?

Just curious. Thanks in advance! :)

The 1640 I have been using for a few days is at least as cool as the M1530 I have and many degrees cooler than my 1730.

As for weight its too close to tell. They are both very solid systems with a nice balanced weight. At the end of the day the 1640 is my favorite system, the LCD is amazing, backlit keyboard is a requirement at this point and overall the fit and finish is very tight and very well built. Not a huge fan of the "shiny" palm rest but at this point the pros far outweight the cons. As an added bonus I don't have to worry much about when my GPU is going to fail.

i think the backlit keyboard AND the LCD are what make this notebook such an attractive purchase.

I went whole hog and got the new fandangled display, and the 128G SSD. After waiting several weeks, it finally arrived yesterday.
The display has a fine blue line running through it from top to bottom. Looks like the display is broken, but no visible damage to the laptop or case.
First boot is ok, but uninstalling Google gets the dreaded blue screen.
Reboot wants to run the repair utility. Then the repair utility aborts saying it can't recover.
Reboot again, this time select 'normal start'. It starts up and I can surf the net.
Then I look at the C: drive through 'my computer', and it says total capacit 109g. I paid for a 128G solid state harddrive. It looks to me like this unit was returned by a prior customer, and or shipped from Dell with a damaged SSD.
Then the laptop crashes again, surfing the web.
    Reboot repair utility fails again.

Shipped it back to DELL today, after spending half an hour going through automated phone system and end up with a south american fellow with a barking dog in the background answering the phone.

    Never Dell again.

    Hallo SONY VAIO

I didn't intend for it to sound that way. I have just had too many issues with the defective NVIDIA GPU's. I hope with this system my GPU issues are behind me.

It is a great "lap" top! I have an Airdesk that I use for my 1720 since I hate holding it on my lap. But I worked on the 1640 all day with it on my lap and was thinking that I didn't need a desk for it. It is light and well balanced. If it gets warm all it takes is a slight shift for the airflow and it cools down.
