    Is the XPS 1330 really part of the Inspiron line?

    Allow myself to introduce to you...myself.

    I've been reading and learning a lot from this forum and happy to finally stick my nose in it.

    So I was strolling around BestBuy yesterday and came across the Crimson Red XPS 1330 w/ Vista Premium which was nice to "feel" in person rather than viewing online. I checked the properties and Windows stated under the Model information it had listed the 1330 as an Inspiron 1330. :confused:

    Any reason to that? Are XPS' really re-branded Inspirons?
    Or could've been a software glitch?

    Any other XPS owners notice their models coming up as Inspirons in Vista?
    Just curious.

    Thanks.

    if it was inspiron then it would be on their site as inspiron. lol....
    xps=xps
    inspiron=inspiron

    why does it matter anyway? if you got a computer you like with good specs then why do you care? its got i mean really it's just a bunch of parts in a case. It's not really dell at all

    intel
    nvidia
    sigmatel
    etc.......both inspiron and xps use these manufacturers. xps looks cooler and offers better specs usually. xps is their high end line. inspiron is not.

    Actually, I believe the technically correct name for the 1330 is the Inspiron XPS M1330. I have seen it with that name before (not sure where). At any rate, no worries, the 1330 is XPS whether is has Inspiron before it or not.

    XPS is its own line...its like buying a 3 series. a 335i compared to an M3...thats like an inspiron to an XPS in terms of name i guess

    I went to check out the XPS M1330 at bestbuy about two days ago. it looks nice, but there's one thing about keyboard. I feel like XPS keyboard is not as good as Inspiron keyboard. Any idea?

    Thank you for providing a screenshot to prove I wasn't making it up. I was hesitant to conjure up this topic as I did not want to upset any current XPS owners out there if it really meant that XPS' are somehow morphed versions of the Inspiron line (not that there is anything wrong w/ Inspirons). I just wanted to point out my observation.

    Oh don't get me wrong Steve, I wasn't putting down the Inspiron line at all and completely agree w/ what you are saying.

    I must admit, for the past few weeks I've been obsessed about getting myself the XPS 1330 and spent countless hours reading reviews about it. It just sort of threw me off when I noticed it said Inspiron at the store, I just wasn't sure if it was simply DELL's manufacturing naming system by putting it there or not.
    But you guys gotta admit, if you're buying an XPS, part of your soul knows you're buying the name as well. Just thought that maybe Dell wanted some new marketing and created these versions to entice the consumer?

    Cause we all know that the new line of VOSTRO'S are really Inspirons in a new outfit.

    I hope I didn't start any name wars by this thread. I just wanted to point out what I noticed.

    But like steve511 said, if you're happy w/ your laptop, then who cares.
    Any other thoughts are welcomed.

    Unlike the M121O which feels like a Latitude, the M133O IS built like an Inspiron, so the engineers called it the Inspiron M1330. The marketers, whose job it is to get the most money they can get from buyers, called it an XPS.

    To be fair, it does have HDMI and other nice perks; quality-wise, however, it feels more like an Inspiron than a Latitude, which, for the premium price the M133O commands, should be built like a Latitude.

    That was the point(s) I wanted to raise. Does it really come down to marketing strategy? Are the consumers the ones that are being "fooled" into thinking we are getting the Best of the Best because of advertising?

    It does make sense though Samuel, thank you for bringing that up. Even w/ all the great reviews I read on the XPS', there were still some quality build control issues pertaining to the M1330's that prevented me from ordering one even if they are one of the most popular (and S-E-X-I-E-S-T) laptops around. I'm not into popularity contests but more so in reliability and on that note, I'm happily waiting for my Latitude to arrive shortly. ;)

    i hear ya man. i bought an xps to. partly so i could say "yea, i got an xps...what you got" xps look awesome but if your paying for an xps you don't want it to be a "souped up inspiron" or an inspiron in a different case. you pay for xps and you want it to be xps. i agree but.....when it really boils down to it, if you were happy before you saw inspiron just be happy after, if it really bothers you and you dont want anyone to find out im sure you can change it with reshack or some other system hacking program.

    personally i wouldnt care too much i dont think but i can also see why people would care

    I also wanted to make it clear that in no way am I saying that XPS owners were "fools" by any means here or should feel tricked...

    The Inspiron line are solid laptops and very reliable in their own right.
    But yeah, if I order a Guinness, I want a Guinness and not the house draft the waiter suggests and says "it tastes the same"

    I think it's a typo. You can change the registry setting and make it say whatever you want. Go to the Start Button Type Run in the Search Box, then in the Run Box type "regedit" Navigate to this key and change it, mine is already fixed:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation]
    "Manufacturer"="Dell"
    "Model"="XPS M1330"
    "Logo"="C:\dell\Dell_badge.bmp"
    "SupportURL"="http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx..."

    blah blah blah

    XPS doesnt just sound cool it stands for "Xtreme Performance System" and was Dell's high end line of gaming computers. When people see XPS on the lid of your laptop it conveys a certain level of performance. I think Dell has let that reputation slide by offering any XPS in configurations with integrated graphics. Ironically the first XPS laptop was called the XPS Inspiron, so in a sense all XPS laptops are Inspirons. Glad to be of assistance :)

    So are you going to change the model name to the XPS Inspiron M1330 now? :D

    From what I can gather, the XPS range is a subset of the Inspirion range.

    i.e. if you check out the dell outlet, all the XPS appears under the category Inspirion Notebooks and the models called Inspirion XPS M1530 /1330 etc.

    The Home & Home Office sections offer Inspirons and the higher end XPS systems. I always thought that XPS was just a higher end Inspiron - but of course one of the main differences is the far better support you get with an XPS system.
