I'm very interested in buying the M1730. However, I've heard that it has alot of problems - SLI, Mobile Perfomance (when not plugged in), Lights, etc, but it has very good performance and upgradeability. So, at the end of the day is it worth it, or not (Price is not important, so spare no expense)

Not until Dell releases a version with 8800. Once that is released it will be a great machine.

PC Microworks (Clevo D901C) actually offers the dual sli 800m gtx right now if you're interested in gaming laptops. They run fairly expensive, but like you said price isn't an important factor, you should look into them since they perform much better than the m1730.

I own a 1730 and love it... I've got drivers running well and have no BSOD or crashes. Sure the machine has a few teething problems but overall it's awesome. I can also upgrade to an 8800 when they release them next year. Of course you can buy an Alienware for more money but don't expect that to run full pelt on battery... I can use my 1730 on battery for email, office, net etc. but I always play my games on power.

Is the X7900 (2.8Ghz, 800Mhz FSB) enough to handle next-gen games, or will I have to upgrade to Penryn or Nehalem?

So, the X7900 will be outdated, or the M1730. What if it is upgradeable to the 8800m?

Most C2D CPUs will handle current and next generations games. It is really the GPU that limits gaming performance. If you want the best gaming machine, go with the 8800m gtx. You'll probably have to wait for a month or two for the m1730 to come with that GPU.

yes you can get the dell with a SSD. But there expensive. Is it really worth the extra cost. IMO NO. get a normal RAID config foe half the cost.
