Hi guys, here's is the deal.
I have a basic Xps L501X with this specs:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i5 @ 2.67GHz
4.0GB Double-Chanel DDR3 @ 532MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M.
I've had minor problems with this "optimus" thing from the nvidia card. But the biggest one i've had is the total incompatibility when trying to run "Heroes of Newerth" a pc game with my Nvidia Geforce GT 420M. I got the latest driver for my card but the only way i can run the game is with the intel HD graphic card.
Is there any way i can turn off optimus? or to fix this problem? if getting rid of optimus will fix my problems i'll do it as i dont really care about the power saving.
The specific problem with the game is that when i open it with the nvidia as my gpu it crashes instantly reporting this error "D_3_D Create device failed" a problem i dont get with the integrated intel graphic card.
I really apreciate someone's help as i'm despreate and excuse my poor english![]()

Heroes of Newerth driver issue - NVIDIA Forums -

i have the L501x w/ a 420m and i can run HoN fine (mostly high @ 1080p)
u should try different drivers. i remember using one set of drivers which didnt let HoN start but im not sure what the error was. switching to a different set of drivers fixed the issue. (btw hon does run fine on the intel HD card)
anyways, im using NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.51 BETA currently, so give those a try. make sure to clean out your old drivers first. -
Edit: For some reason the setup says that it cant find compatible graphic hardware and wont install... any ideas why?
Edit 2: unistalled the old drivers, got 270.51 to work but still HoN crash when i try to open it.. i guess is just me then
Edit 3: I just relize that when i set the nvidia card as my gpu for HoN, and i try to open the game it makes a sounds as a piano key, then it opens i get the s2 games logo and it crashes :/ -

Go to device manager, look up display adaptors. See if you can see the Intel and Nvidia devices. If you can see the Nvidia GeForce GT 540M, right click and click on properties. Under driver, click uninstall. Then reboot. Might be a good idea to do this in safe mode.
I must note that Nvidia's website has stated that it's okay to install the new driver over the old one, as the new driver removes the old one before installing. -
also make sure to uninstall the drivers under "add remove programs." Its best to clear out all that Nvidia related software prior to installing to make sure only the new stuff will stick.
-
Well, the easy to do a clean install for nvidia, just simply download and install the new driver, just make sure you check the box for clean install.

Got the driver installed but i still keep getting the crash of the game.. thanks for your help so far guys ^^
