Yeah eventually there will be. No rumors yet, but expect a XPS M1530 refresh with the new chipset soon.

Dell already said that they're not going to update it when Montevina (which it did) first comes out, but they have plans to in the future.

Dell usually doesn't make any official announcements in advance.

I guess instead of buying in August I'll have to wait till October...

I know the current one is good, but I want the extra features of Montevina and the new chipset plus the possibility of DDR3.

I expect Dell are waiting for the next Intel release later in the summer, when the Echo Peak chipset starts shipping with Wimax support on board... then they can do one refresh of the line with all the options available such as the Echo Peak chipset and switchable graphics...

    * WiMAX to come later for Intel Centrino 2

    * Intel delays full introduction of Centrino 2 into August

    * Intel launches Centrino 2 with host of chipset improvementsl
I guess it's worth waiting for, but annoying all the same ...

If i read this right, it means that there wont be much of an improvement between the m1330 now and the one in the next month seeing that the features utilising the montevina platform will only come much later.

Hope you're right. It would make sense from what we have heard from Dell through others of a mid August availability. Links would help too :p Until then, I await patiently.

isn't it stupidly expensive? like $800?
You want it for battery life or performance? I haven't really heard anything magnificent about SSD drives... you have any benchmarks or something?

I probably saw them on Gizmodo or Engadget. The price on Newegg for pre-order is $520 with a $40 rebate so $480. They should outperform 10k drives plus you don't need to worry about file defragmenting.

they may.... but they may suck up more battery life, and write speeds are really bad.... only plus is read speeds for SSD

Tomshardware is garbage for saying they use more battery because they retracted it.

    Here are the benchmarks

The read speeds are better, write slower, but those aren't true determining factors when you consider random-access times which destroy regular hard drives.

Newer generation SSDs should run faster and consume less power.

I spoke to the dell team on live chat, and he went away to check and confirmed a new line of xps models were coming out, I then asked when, and he said its scheduled for middle september 08.

Dont know if i should believe or not , but thats what he said

Well I called and did the Dell chat. The only thing I got out of them is that Centrino 2 will be in the next XPS product. So it will be like all the others and not simply a refresh but a new model. No dates unfortunately, so I wait.

    I couldn't wait, so I've bought my XPS M1330 fully loaded with 320GB 7200 RPM HDD ...

The thing is, I reckon with the 3 years premium xps support, and the 3 years complete care accidental damage warrenty I can sell it and trade up in 18 months when WIMAX is starting to roll out into Europe and Asia.

Plus they gave me a 5% discount so as long as it arrives by the first week of September I'll be extremely happy!

Of course, I could also use the 30 day no fault thingy and send it back in for a full refund then get one of the new ones :)

The customer service reps tend to be highly unreliable since they often don't find out about new products until very close to the launch. Also, even if they know, they probably won't tell you because there has been no official announcement yet. This has been a summer of frustration. I'd pull the trigger on an ASUS G50V right now if it wasn't for that horrible orange trim and piano finish on the lid.

    Hey there,

Don't worry so....You ordered the 1530 you wanted right??? ;)

There is something new coming out daily, that is how technology is~! Change, Change, change....

When I ordered my 1530 in 1/08 the LED was not available..but I knew it would be coming out soon..it was a matter of when. :)

But, I was happy with my order and what I received was an awesome lappy! Sure, I still would love the LED..but I got a sweet LG Screen and it's near perfection for me.

The Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda...things always seem to *hit* after you make a fairly large choice on a purchase, such as a notebook...Or, really anything that can happen in life...If you question yourself on that..it can cause a cranky *headache* ;) :) LOL.

You always have choices...if you get it, and want something better..return it to Dell (w/in 21 days of invoice date)...and get the one you want.

So, think maybe you will be happy with your choice once it arrives and *anything upcoming* won't be out yet!

    Enjoy your day!

    Cin ;) :)

That would cannibalize sales of all their current offerings and would not be a wise business decision, as much as we want them to do so. :p

I think that right now...we are all going to have to *hold steady* on the impending releases by Dell... ;) :)

So much has been said, talked about, etc....about all the releases..and we are still waiting...Maybe, they are waiting until September to make one huge *bulk* announcement about the impending line-ups! Who know's. ;)

For right now, I am enjoying my lappy and when the releases finally hit..I will be really, rather excited ;) :)

It sounds to me like Dell has taken a page out of Apple's playbook. With Apple's market share rapidly increasing, I would expect Dell to announce the XPS refresh as close to Apple's Macbook refresh as possible.
Not only does that make sense in terms of a competetive nature but with the surge of sales in the current XPS line and the amount of marketing that I've seen, I really believe that Dell is trying to sell off all of their remaining inventory before a new introduction.

As for the mention that the XPS line will be simply integrated into the Studio line; I think that would be a big mistake on Dell's part and I'm pretty sure they're aware of that.
