Is that from EPP? I don't see the 5300 wlan card anymore on their regular site. That price is really good considering it has a BD drive and all. Care to show me how you got that price?
-
Yes it's thru epp before tax. I'm a student and that's the price they called me back with Is that a decent wifi card. I know some people have posted throttling issues with the old power adapter.... besides that and the heat from The i7 is there any thing else that should steer me to or away from this unit??
Thanks -
You will get a 130w adapter so no worries there and your wlan card is proven to be very good. Get a decent cooler and you will be good to go.
-
If you're bothered about the heat from a quad core i7 then why not consider the i5? The price should be about the same and performance difference will be negligible (better for everyday applications) and not to mention a better battery life.
Just something you might want to consider -
The 1647 /w i5 is more expensive than the 1645 /w i7 in the US atm, I believe.
-
Seems like an OK price if that's with the 3 year warranty (I don't know how to read the warranty specs listed, whether or not the 1 and 2 year warranties stack).
Last time I checked the Sony F series was using some weak GPU (the same one as a MacBook Pro which shows how weak it is) so the XPS 16 is better in that department.
You should also look up Dell e-coupon codes to see if you can beat that price. Sometimes you can get an amazing deal with e-coupons, but other times not much at all.
Edit: compare GPUs and stuff here, great resource when buying a laptop: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-330M.22437.0.html -

A lot of people will say the i5 has less heat and better battery life than the i7 which is true, but some people say that it performs better which isn't really true. The i5 may have a higher clock speed for single and dual-core applications (besides i7 620) but the i7 quads have a larger cache, superior memory controller, faster bus/memory and of course, quad-core mode when needed (XPS 16 is a multimedia laptop, and many multimedia applications perform better with more cores).
-
The only "deals" I see are the stated reductions on the page of pricing and specs for each Studio XPS laptop. Those are not really special deals, they're just the way Dell adjusts its pricing. -
Is this a good price on this XPS 16???
