I have a buddy "non-member" that wants to upgrade his cpu, he cannot afford my retail P9500
so he is looking at a oem used T9400
What is that dark circle on the die in this picture?

Is that from heat or is it normal?

If someone could give any clues please do so as I don't wish to hold up this seller.

I don't think it's normal. I've never seen a processor with a "dark circle" on the die like that. Without any more info, it's hard to tell for sure, though; it might be some leftover thermal paste, or an illusion caused by a bad photo. If your buddy hasn't bought the chip, I'd probably advice against it, otherwise, try to scrape it off or something? If the chip is actually working, I wouldn't worry too much about it, though.

Thank you, he has not yet purchased it, matter of fact its posted right here in the classifieds area.
The seller does say it works just fine, personally i never have seen anything like that as well.
It almost looks like a heat discoloration.
