I live in UK I bought xps15 laptop from US dell outlet since the US price is much cheaper than buying from UK. Unfortunately I just know UK outlet also have a good deal (still a bit more expensive but just around $150 more expensive for the same spec).
So I decided to buy one. Unfortunately I have to pay for the UK custom VAT as well which is 20%. I totally forgot about it before buying. So the laptop is even more expensive and now I am thinking to return the laptop to Dell US. However they will charge 15% of stocking fees if you return it!!!!!! So I am hesitated if I should keep it or return it.
Now the laptop is with my friend in USA. So I want to ask for your advice. I will post the spec and price below. Please suggest if I should keep this laptop or to return this laptop to US dell and giving them about $150 for the return charge!!!!
-----OK...the laptop spec is below-----------
XPS L502X
Processor: Intel Core i7-2720QM processor (2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
750 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
NVIDIA GeForce GT540M 2GB graphics" with Optimus
with TV Tuner
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 and Bluetooth 3.0
15.6 inch FHD (1080p) B+RGLED Display with 2.0 MP webcam
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
Elemental Silver Aluminum WLAN Capable
Microsoft Office Starter
9 Cell Primary Battery
Internal Backlit Keyboard - English
JBL 2.1 Speakers with Waves Maxx Audio 3
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The price including VAT and including all discount = $971
Delivery from USA to UK = should be about $160 (might be over the price but shouldn't less than $130)
UK custom VAT 20% of laptop price (actual price excluding some discounts)= $220 (about £138 )
So the total I have to pay is about $1351 (about £855)
---------------------------------------------------------------
To buy this laptop with similar spec from Dell outlet UK is about £780-800 (about $1235-1266) but UK spec won't have TV tuner, wireless option is not as good as this one
I want to ask for your advice here if I should just keep it and pay £850 for this deal or I should return this to Dell US and pay them $150 for nothing (big lost)
Also if I keep this laptop , Can I sell this laptop for about $1450 on UK ebay? will anyone buy because it's too expensive but the configuration is quite good to me. And to buy such spec in UK it will cost over £1,400 (I mean new one as UK outlet hardly sells out refurbished xps L502x). But the down side to make people not to buy for this price is
1- it's US laptop so it might not have international guarantee (I guess. not sure about it)
2- It's refurbished laptop
what do you think?
-
I think your friend should send you a gift that contains the laptop.

Can anyone please help to decide if I should keep it or return it. Thank you so much.

Its not really a conversation topic. Would your rather pay VAT and have the TV tuner or buy it from within the country you reside.
PS, I've sent packages that went unopened just fine. Maybe have your friend value the laptop at $200. -
where can you get those specs in the uk for £800? Am I missing something here... Configuring that online for me is around £1400 without 10% discount applied.
Edit: just googled it and are these the Refurbished Laptops? if so are they any good? -

Yeah. Dell Outlet only have refurbished laptop. You can find a very good spec for nearly a half price of new one there. -
I know it's not a conversation topic but I can't really decide what to do. (I might sound thick..lol) So I want to know from UK people who is keen on the spec to see if I should keep this laptop with this total price or should just return it and buy one from Dell UK. -

only I can say is that if I go this far I would keep it .
but maybe you should had your laptop double checked by your friend make sure everythings ok before it's on its way home.
Is this xps L502x from Dell outlet too expensive? Should I return?
