I was incredibly excited to unbox my brand new Studio XPS 16 on Monday. I bought it from Best Buy because Dell could simply not match the deal I was getting there, so I was okay with possibly having to ship my machine off in the future for matinence as I have a backup computer.

Over the past 2 days, I've encountered two problems that I take pretty big issue with:

    1. There is a wavy pattern that has popped up twice on the bottom of the screen. (After a quick internet search, I found this to be light bleeding? Y/N? Sometimes it goes away when I restart the comp)

    2. The left speaker plays significantly lower than the right. It's a speaker problem, since when I plug headphones or external speakers in, they play just fine.

If it was just the speakers, I'd live. But both together makes me think I've either bought a dud machine or I've made the wrong choice with Dell. I'll be calling BB today to see what I can do, since I only just got the thing two days ago, but I'd be interested in the opinions of people at NBR and to see how many people have also had these issues.

I don't know about the wave but 2) is a known issue with all XPS16's. It's supposed to be due to non-symetric placement of the subwoofer.

Calling BB? As in Better Business (Bureau)? Isn't that a bit drastic?

I can deal with the speaker problem, since most of my audio use is either with headphones or with external speaker, and when I DO want to use the on board speakers I can always just pan it right.

With light bleeding or w/e this is (I can post a picture when I get back to my main machine), it's happened twice and I've had no problem just restarting the computer and it goes away. Anyone experience this before?

This is the photo I snapped this morning while it was happening. The 3rd or 4th light over occasionally flickered which led me to believe that it was not "light bleeding" like I had originally thought. Here's a picture I snapped with my phone this morning.

It's not really detailed but you can see what was happening to the screen when it was going on.

Yeah, and it drives me crazy because it goes away. I'm going to take it in to BB and see what they say.

They should exchange it for a new one...that definetly isn't right! Just take the picture with you as proof if it doesn't happen when you go to them

Not sure if that's possible, it's a design issue.

I call BB, and I currently have another one on the way. Hopefully this one won't have the same screen issues as the other.
