on Windows XP SP2, I am having problem installing the webcam driver downloaded from Dell's website. After unzipping R160323.exe and running setup.exe, I get "An error occurred while setting up the driver" and the installation aborted.
Does anyone face the same problem? No matter what I did many times it just doesn't install, very frustrating. Worst still I could not find any relevant help after extensive googling. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
thanks.

anyone can help? I called Dell Support but they said they don't hit this error during installation. Seems like nobody is getting this problem
-
-
I couldn't get it to work that way.
The only way I was able to get it installed was to slipstream the SATA drivers into a valid edition of XP (from my other laptop).
Google nLite slipstream XP. Plenty of guide to get it working.
Hope that helps. -
used nero to make it into a bootable DVD
by the way..I also got rid of media direct..and tested the button after installing XP...it won't turn into a self-destructive killer switch...it'll just be a dummy button

Such is life I suppose. -
I guess we are headed to a time when someone will just give the links of various device drivers depending upon individual configurations of various types of hardware loaded. Sadly, I can't find the time myself. However, its just an idea...
-
Just curious, but assuming changing AHCI to ATA will allow for non-slipstreamed XP installs to work, what kind of performance hit will there be? Any noticeable at all? I'm on a 5400rpm drive so I don't want it going any slower than it already is compared to a 7200rpm HDD.
Edit: Also, is the mic gain problem apparent in XP as well? -
Slipstreaming was much easier than I thought it would be if there are hits though. -
Was that a misquote RT?
-
I read somewhere that changing the AHCI to ATA does reduce the disk throughput quite a bit. I also read Dell XP Pro 2 CDs have SATA support built into it? Has anyone tried this?
Dell's iastor.sys is some 456kb (4.0.0.6211) and what is contained within R154200.EXE (Intel Matrix Driver) 272kb (v7.0.0.1020).
Do both work?
Does everyone agree with me that the *main* problem is loading of XP SP2 itself? The rest of the devices seem to have various manufacturer/Dell provided drivers
Any comments? -
Hm, has anyone else's Fn key stopped working? I cannot use the numpad that's integrated over the regular keyboard now that XP is installed.
Edit 2: Fixed old problem, still not getting enough mic gain or Fn numpad to work.. -
-
I'am just wondering if the external Wi-Fi catcher buttons still work with XP when the notebook is on and off ?
thanks -
What a frustrating problem. The overlapped numpad numbers won't work when I hold the Fn key down, but the asterisk, slash, and other peripheral buttons that are part of the overlapped numpad work just fine with Fn held down. aslfknaslf

Has anyone else had
"this does not support the driver your attempting to install"
when installing the "Sigmatel STAC92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver"

Anyone got the Fingerprint reader Working, and a program to go with it ?

Has anyone gotten QuickSet to work under XP on the m1330? I haven't been able to get it to install...

you don't need it -
Anyone know a program to go with the fingerprint reader?
-
it's been asked over and over in this thread and nobody has been able to find anything other than the driver.

Hello All!, I am new to this forum and I recently switched my new Dell M1330 back to WinXP Pro. I have been able to get everything to function properly except for one thing..the SATA Drivers, I have run Nlite many times, and I still get the BSOD. Once I tweak the BIOS and can boot normaly, I get the "Found New Hardware" For the IDE Channels (Primary and Secondary), I can find the drivers needed, but my question is which one do I load to get SATA to work properly. The drivers I have are from the r154200.exe from Dell. Any help to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated!

Just use the "drivers and utilities" DVD to install the software. I know it's for vista but it actually works in XP.
I'm so glad I got everything to work today. It's amazing how much faster my lappy is now. -
am I missing it or did the link to 16250.inf get moved? I can't seem to get any decent video driver installed.

Although it is no guarantee, there is an recently updated version of QuickSet that works on the 1420 for XP. Might be worth a shot on the m1330.

I got AHCI enabled under WinXP!!
- Installed WinXP in ATA mode (not AHCI)
- Did not want to slipstream a WinXP CD
- Did not want to bother with F6 / floppy drive - I don't own an external floppy drive
- Attempting to switch HDD from ATA mode to AHCI mode after WinXP install would result in BSOD
Here's how:
1) Download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101&lang=eng
2) Once you download the file, run it with a -a switch:
iata76_enu.exe -a
This will NOT install the Matrix Storage Manager. What this will do is run the installer, and ONLY EXTRACT the files to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Again, this does NOT install anything.
3) Your drivers are now located in C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager. They will be found in either \Driver, or \Driver64, depending on whether you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit OS.
4) Go to Device Manager --> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Double-click on the Intel ICH8M 3-port SATA Controller - 2828... remember, *ONLY* click on the device that ends with 2828.
5) Go to Driver tab, and choose to Update Driver.
6) Tell the Wizard prompts:
- No, not this time
- Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
- Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install.
- Click the "Have Disk" button. Point it to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Driver (or Driver64).
- The driver you want to install for WinXP 32-bit for the Dell XPS M1330 is Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
- After you install the driver and click OK out of every menu, reboot the laptop.
7) During reboot, go into BIOS and turn on AHCI mode and Flash Module
8) Voila! WinXP will boot up with no BSOD! -
FOR DRIVERS:
Neat dirty little trick.
Type in CTCNHD1 for the service tag, that notebook (VOSTRO 1500)apparently has all of the XP compatible drivers for the M1330. No hunting, period. -
New problem encountered. I was just on the phone with Dell Tech and we both experienced the same problem. When our XP 1330 goes to sleep, it won't wake up (as in the screen). The rest of the computer is working and i can even hear my fingerprint reader registering my input. We tried to key in Fn F8 to no avail. Does anyone know of a solution? Dell Tech has told me to disable sleep mode for the time being.

Hi guys, great thread you have going here, I'm looking at buying the m1330 and want to run xp - so this thread has relieved a lot of my concerns.
A quick question before I take the plunge - has anyone confirmed if the HDMI port works under XP or not?
Thanks! -

When I ran the exe, it even states that it's for the m1330. Works like a charm. -

I've tried downloading the bluetooth module from the link provided, but i can't install it. The message I get is: Please use Fn F2 or the switch to turn on your bluetooth...thing is, I already turned it on, but it still won't install. help please?
EDIT: Found the solution in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165890
Downloaded the file from http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=213714
and then after installing that, the system autodetected the presence of the bluetooth module and installed that no problem -
pure genius! worked for methanks!
Its OFFICIAL! Windows XP works perfectly on the XPS m1330!
