Well looks good to me, but should have gone a slightly higher resolution display, because thats one area were the 1530 has an edge over the competition..

I think i got email last nite from the outlet about 10% off coupon but deleted cuz i did not need it. Just search for dell oulet coupon and you will find another one in a week or so.

Good deal. I got the same system, except 250GB 7200RPM, 4GB RAM, 1680x1050 LCD, no TV card, and 3 year warranty with complete care for a little cheaper.

When is your estimated ship date?

    @OP

Not bad. A bit cheaper than what I got but then again, I'm in Canada and don't get all those deals you Americans get.

Also, you might be interested to know that your 160GB 7200RPM is slower than those 250GB 5400RPM, which you can upgrade to for a mere $10.

I checked thru out the day cuz the inventory changes fast. also when they first list new computers i think it take away for the search to get indexed. I would look for a xps 1730 and nothing would show up. I would look for a 2.4 or faster processor and sort by screen size and 5 would be there.

i also waited till they had free shipping to go w/ my 15%off. it was the second to the last day of the promotion. i did panic alittle cuz there was nothing in inventory then they would post some and they would be gone fast.

and you are welcome. if i get any others in my email i will post 'em here

so the 250 5400rpm hard drive is faster than the 160 7200rpm one? That's not possible, smaller size and faster speed is definitely faster..

I kinda regret getting the tv tuner.. But I'm going to buy 2 2GB sticks from newegg so it will be 4GB.

The only reason I didn't get the highest resolution screen is because I wants LED..

I been thinking about it today and I want to call dell tomorrow and tell them to take out the tv tuner..

I have 2 questions though.. Why dell only offer the 32-bit version of the ultimate? Do they offer the 64-bit? Should I get the 64-bit? Is it worth $150 for it? And my second question is that can this laptop take PC6400 ram?

i did not. I really do not take my laptop anywhere except around the house and to my home office for work. to still mine they would have to get thru the fence, past two BIG dogs in a house not in town. if they do all that w/o me shooting them they can have it.

you got things a bit mixed up,

higher density (larger HDD size, also number of platters matter) = faster speed
faster motor rotation speed = faster speed

there is a small posibility that 250gb 5400rpm could be about same speed as 160gb 7200rpm. it all depends how many platters it has.

Thats correct about the number of platters and rotation speed, however a bigger drive takes longer to access, especially when you start putting files/ programs on to them.

say you have a 160 at 7200 rpms and a 250 at 5400 and you have stuff on them the 160 at 7200 rpm is going to be faster because it has less "stuff" to look through before it "finds" what you need.

now on the other hand if you have say one and only one application on the drive the 250 may be faster because it is larger, and there is only that one program it needs to "find"

make sense? (thats not directed at nekrosoft13)

I see.. So if money isn't the problem, which one is the best? 160GB 5400rpm, 250GB 5400rpm, 320GB 5400rpm, 160GB 7200rpm, or 250GB 7200rpm? (No SSD for me lol, they are way too expensive..)

Also can someone tell me why doesnt dell offer 64-bit vista ultimate? And can the xps m1530 take PC6400 RAM with 800FSB?

Interesting to note that the 1530 I ordered was also listed as coming with LOTRO. Will be interested in seeing if it's actually installed, not that I plan on playing.

WRONG!!! His choice is PERFECT. I do a lot of PhotoShop editing and website work and the 1440x900 is perfect. Besides, they've had too many problems with higher resolutions recently. Higher resolution is not the way to go most of the time.

Yeah, people said that LED's are awesome, or i would have gotten the 1680..
but right now i have a 1280x800 widescreen on my 3 year old laptop and im comfortable with it, so a little higher resolution would be great, plus it is LED :)

    UPDATE!!!
I just called them and they took the TV Tuner off and also gave me the 250GB 5400RPM HDD instead of the 160GB 7200RPM HDD, and the funny thing is, i configured the system with the TV Tuner for $75 and the HDD for additional $16 due to the 25% off, and now i dont want it, they gave me back $100 for the TV Tuner and $25 for the HDD, LOL

ALSO!!! They took off Shipping and handling so now i get it for free!

It was $1538.96 and now it is $1336.88!!
This call took off $202.08 TOTAL!!!

    Im STOKED!!!

I'm hoping to pick up an M1530 off the Outlet soon - if anyone happens to have an applicable coupon that they don't need and wouldn't mind PMing me, it would be majorly appreciated.

well of course the ssd is going to be the fastest, but you excluded that, so then the 250 @ 7200 would be your best choice for speed and storage. this is because the 320 is going to be 2x 160gb @ 5400 rpm, now i think you have raid on the xps so if you went with raid stripe 0 (i think) either that or its (stripe 1) then this would be the faster drive combo. I am not sure about the 1530 a whole lot though (how many drives it can hold and if it has raid capabilities or not)

i would imagine that since dell sells computers to everyone and not just computer geeks, the 64 bit version of the operating system would cause their customer service (troubleshooters) a nightmare, and many people would buy it thinking it is better, and then would not be able to use their old printers and some other peripherals because there are no drivers for them. in short the 64 bit edition of windows (xp, or vista) is not 100% backwards compatible.

not sure on the ram question for the xps.

That would be sweet. Would mean mine would be arriving any minute.

It's bad; just ordered this morning and already antsy.

Woah, what'd you say to them to get all that money off? I ordered mine 4/25 and the estimated shipping date is 5/12 (with arrival 5/16->5/19). Would I be able to get like ... an upgrade to overnight shipping or something if I called them up? Is it worth a try?

GallonOMilik, I dont know if they will do that or not, but youll never know if you dont try, and yeah dont believe their ship dates, they told me it would take over two months to get to my door and it was here within less than a month!
