Just wanted to share some enthusiasm as I just ordered a new Dell 17" XPS L702X!![]()
I have been doing some pretty extensive research the past month on laptops and figuring which would be the one for me along with decideing upon how I wanted it configured. Machine wise, it ended up comming down the XPS or the Toshiba 505-8104Q 18.4" unit. I am huge movie buff and am always playing dvd's on my computer, so naturally the large 18.4" screen on the Toshiba is what the most enticing part of it was. I also liked the display on the left side of the keyboard which I thought was nice. I decided against it in the end partly because I do not like all the glossyness of the machine along with red accenting, it's just too flashy for me to be honest, just looks and feels cheap. The keyboard is glossy and pretty much the whole computer is that way which = fingerprint gallore and I knew I would hate always having to whipe it down. The other thing was longevity. There are just not as many reviews out there it seems for Toshiba laptops and some of what I read is that they are made a little on the cheaper side and I didn't want to take that chance.
From what I've read, it seems a lot of what Dell's are known for is there high build quality. They just seem to be structually very well put together and that is very important to me. I like the new island keyboard a lot and the JBL sound system with subwoofer is absolutely rockin'. I really just like the overall design of the machine and after reading the reviews, it just kept placing on top time and time again for what I was looking for. I have also never owned a Dell but have always wanted to.
After figuring out and deciding upon which specs would be best for my use, here is what they are:
Dell L702X XPS 17"
-Intel Core i7 2630QM
-640GB, 7200RPM Hard Drive
-6GB of RAM, 1333MHz
-Windows 7 64BIT O/S
-(900p) HD W/LED Display (1600x900)
-NVIDA GeForce GT 550M 1GB Graphics
Anyway, the laptop that I am comming from is 2008 model HP DV9000 17". I love the machine, but this past year, it has really shown it's age and is time for a replacement. There are five in my mind, pretty major or rather inconvenient things wrong with it:
1. The wireless card does not read WiFi anymore.
2. The disc drive does not work, although is not a huge deal as I can hook up an external drive through the usb of course.
3. When the machine goes to sleep, it will not always recognize anything when you try and 'wake it up', so I have to pop the battery out and put it back in.
4. Every once in a while the screen will go black, then come right back on again with a message stating the image processor is failing, or something like that.
5. The mouse curser will sometimes go 'crazy'.
So all in all, I'm very stoked to have finally decided upon a machine! I am really looking forward to getting and using this computer and have high hopes for it. I will also do a little review on it once I get it.

Hey you forgot....
6. Its an HP.
Na, just kidding. HP has stepped up their game recently, I really like the design and features of the Envy line. As a matter of fact I bought the Envy 17 3D back in December when they had the $400 coupons. Pretty nice machine, Slot load Bluray, Edge to edge 1080p LCD, Backlit Island keyboard, Nice slim design etc. I returned it because I knew the Sandy Bridge series were coming out. So here I am waiting on my third XPS 17 Laptop to come in.(Sig Sig). Damn coupons keep getting better and better.

I think you'll be pretty happy with the L702x.
I had a Samsung R780 before this, and it never quite lived up to my expectations.
Quite a different story with my Dell, both performance and build quality were better than I expected.
Just bought a Dell 17" XPS L702X!! Very Excited!!
