OK, well here are some of the apecs below.
CPU: Intel Core Duo 2.0 Ghz T7200
HDD: 70 GB HDD
Audio Card: SigmaTel High Definition Audio Card
GPU: Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS 256MB
Memory: 4 GB OCZ High Performance PC2-6400 (800 MHz)
O/S: Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
-I don't know a whole lot about computers but I want to upgrade. I got a pretty good deal I think on this or else I would have just bought an XPS with every thing I want. I want to sell the CPU on Ebay and buy the fastest one I can install which I think is the Intel Core Duo 2.33Ghz?
-I also want to install a 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD. The laptop came with the installation CD for Vista Business and the activation code so can I install the current o/s onto the new HDD or will I have to buy a new o/s?
-I want to buy a Nvidia Geforce 7950 GTX and install it. I guess all I will have to do is install the driver for that?
-The current memory is dual channel right? From what I understan Dual Channel just means memory is installed in both slots on the m/b? Or is there something I have to do to run Dual Channel?
-In the future I would like to install Vista Ultimate (64-bit).
-I think the internal wireless card is only a/g so I want to install a a/b/g/n.
So if anyone has any suggestions, or can give me any help I would appreciate it, thanks.

1 question first-how much did you paid for it?

You can't change the video card in the M1710, but yeah, you can change the HD, RAM, CPU, and wireless card. That CPU will be fine with the 7900M GS's lifespan.

You CAN upgrade to 2500/3500M or 7900/7950GTX GPU. Search Ebay.
I'm just wondering why people would answer questions they don't know answer to. -

I was pretty sure that the M1710 didn't use MXM.

7900GS seems like a decent overclocker from other peoples threads...
Should be able to hit near 7900m GTX speeds -
you can change your video card to a 7950 gtx, i just got mine upgraded.

Doesn't seem like its worth all the trouble, and you'll void out any warranty you have. Wouldn't it be easier and more econimical to sell the laptop and just buy a new one with better specs?

better advice-sell your 1710,and buy 1730 from outlet!
Just bought a M1710 and want to upgrade. Suggestions? Help?
