Just got a 1340 from the outlet with the standard base specs that are already quite good.
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 (64 BIT) - English
13.3" WXGA (1280x800) Display with TrueLife
    4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
320GB (7,200rpm) Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive
    nVidia® GeForce 9400m graphics card
Internal DVD+/-RW (DVD & CD read and write) Slot Load Drive including Software
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery
    Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
Dell Wireless 1515 Half Mini Card (802.11n)
2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera with Facial Recognition Software

It was a Scratch and Dent but excpet a few scuff marks on the leather it is almost new.

So I have tons of questions for 1340 owners and gurus:

    1. What CDs should come with the 1340, It came with 3 (Vista, Driver, installed Software CD).
    2. The webcam has noise lines in it (2.0MP webcam). The one on 1330 I returned was much better with almost no noise. This one has horizontal lines noise. Is this normal?
    3. Does this have Media direct as I did not see it as I plan to do the fresh 64 bit vista install?
    4. Is their a guide specifically for 64 bit vista install on 1340? Is it similar to 32bit vista as I did it on my Vostro a while back?
    5. HEAT HEAT and more HEAT, what can be done about it? I got the A06 BIOS loaded now as it came with A03. Can I do anything other than this? Temp running around 50C for CPUs and 60C for GPUs for normal web surfing etc. When I played HD video (.mts) the CPU temp went to 70C. Need advice on my options.
    6. Can somone know the release date of BIOS for 1340? is there a link to DELL site on this as I want to estimate when this was built. It came with A03 BIOS.
    7. Currently out of the box vista experience are on par with my Vostro that has 5470 CPU, 8400M GPU and 2GB ram. Since I have tweaked my Vostro and also did fresh vista install I knew it will be close. I do hope to have 1340numbers very close to 6 after fresh 64bit install and some tweaks Current owest numbers are 5.1(video card) and 5.2 (CPU) which was a surprise.
    8. Any other advice or tricks to tweak will be great as I will be consulting the tweak thread I had used last time with the Vostro NBR.
Thanks all and looking for some advice.

    4. If you've got the right drivers, the procedure for installing Vista 64 should be the same as the procedure for installing Vista 32.

    5. AFAIK, the SXPS 13 naturally runs pretty hot. As mentioned, get a laptop cooler or another computer.

    6. I maintain that the software version on the machine has no relation to when it was built.

    7. Agreed with above. WEI is generally a piece of junk; don't worry too much about your scores.

    Go to smartsource.dell.com
Register and log in, Try to download the software for your computer. if you get any error messages when trying to do so, go chat with dell tech support.. when they confirm the error exists, they will overnight mail you a crap load of cd's.. more than you received with the system.

Undervolt your CPU to make it cooler or buy a cooling pad

Reformat the partition and do a fresh install of Vista 64bit

I think Win7 is still unstable

thanks guys I will be lookig at the fresh vista install this weekend.

If Web cam is bad how difficult is to change? Does this also require to change the LCD screen? I got the AOU screen so I am hoping if they change webcam I may get the Samsung screen.
